Senior: Although small, the St. Mark's community is great as there are a myriad of ways to connect with others. One example is how the Seniors get little buddies (1st through 3rd graders) that they interact with throughout the year, and at the all School Christmas party, bring their little buddy in on their shoulders and let them put an ornament on the Christmas Tree. This is only one of the many ways that St. Mark's brings everyone in the community together. Sophomore: From a highschooler's view, Hockaday is an amazing school that challenges its students in academics, as it is a college prep. school. If you cannot handle pressure and you do not know how to study, this school might not be the best choice for you. Even then, Hockaday has lots of resources devoted to de-stressing and mentally helping students. For example, there was a day last year were there were dogs brought to the school during our free period, and we could pet them and have fun with our friends. Hockaday is also very accepting to all identities and creates a safe space for people to express themselves through clubs, fine arts, and many more. They are very involved in celebrating diversity. The school encourages different interests, and they strive for students to be well-rounded. The students are also very driven. Parent: We have two boys currently at Cistercian and are so thankful that this is their home. Every Cistercian student has the opportunity to be exactly who they are, without having to put up a false front for their peers. If you're a Lego-loving thespian who just happens to be a great athlete or a robotics wizard who plays the piano and is an all-conference soccer player, this is the place for you. It's not easy, by any stretch of the imagination. The coursework is rigorous and they expect a great deal from the students. Rest assured though, when you are up studying late at night for tomorrow's exams, you are not alone and you are in it with your classmates, your brothers. The Monks and teachers truly care for the students and are top-notch educators. Is Cistercian for everyone? No. There are other prestigious schools in the Dallas area that are much easier. Parent: We have been at DIS for 2 years, starting in 1st grade after transferring from another international school. We love DIS! The facilities are amazing with classrooms built around an ultra-secure courtyard containing a soccer field and multiple playgrounds. There is a wealth of specialized teachers even at the younger ages (e.g. separate French, English, math, STEM, music, and gym teachers). We've been very happy with the level of academic rigor offered, and the engagement of our teachers. There is a counselor who regularly visits the classes and helps students navigate the drama of being a young kid. LUNCH IS INCLUDED IN TUITION, and it's both healthy and kid-friendly. The DIS community works hard to maintain a family-like atmosphere with on-campus events like playdates, carnivals, dances, etc. The after-school program is varied with classes in the arts, sciences, and athletics. Parent: I cannot imagine a better place to send my son for high school. Academically, the school is rigorous, demanding, and rewarding. His teachers have been engaging, and they genuinely care about the students getting the most from their courses. The quality of the education is stellar. I have no doubt that my son will be ready for college after four years at Jesuit. Socially, Jesuit gives students every opportunity to find their place within the school, whether that be in sports, clubs, theater, or service groups. Sports can be challenging, since the school is so competitive, but this is a good thing. The school supports many teams, so if a student wants to participate in athletics, he can. He may not make the baseball or basketball team, but he can definitely find a spot in football, track & field, swimming, rugby, bowling, etc. In short, my son absolutely loves attending this school. Parent: The longer we have been at Westwood the more we fall in love with it. My primary student gets greeted with hugs from her friends, then they run around the perimeter of the playground for the morning recess which is how they start their day. I love the flexible drop off times, as early as 7:15 with no extra charge and as late as 8:45 for the primary level. 8:30 is morning recess. This flexibility has been a blessing for my family. The education is amazing, she is learning so much. The holiday celebrations are exuberant. The in-school after school activities are high quality and convenient. Most importantly the children are visibly happy at all levels. The Shakespeare and theater programs are awesome. Successful feeder to other private schools, but we plan to stay all the way! Senior: I attended Uplift North Hills Preparatory for 3 years now and my overall experience at this school was great! The main thing that I love about Uplift North Hills Preparatory is the fact that it prepares a student very well for college through the IB Diploma program that it offers. Being a relatively small school with approximately 100 students per graduating class, the student-to-teacher ratio is amazing and allows for each student to be able to get to know their teacher. Most of the teachers are also very qualified for their positions and are knowledgeable about the courses that they teach. One thing that I would personally like to see is more inclusivity as the school is 65% Asian. Alum: I attended a public middle school and was concerned about the transition. There were some rough moments but overall, I had the best experience at Ursuline. Junior: I really enjoy the School of Health Professions, it's truly an environment that makes me want to learn and ask a lot of questions. This school has so many amazing internship opportunities and the material we learn is just so fun and exciting for a student who is truly interested in medicine. Senior: Some students, particularly newer students have a negative impact on the school. The post Covid high schoolers (10th graders) definitely ruined the experiences for their peers and I’d like them to be stricter on the less behaved classes rather than seniors who’ve been at the school since 2017, when they were in the 6th grade and have consistently shown academic excellence. Everyone deserves to be treated fairly, but when one is acting poorly in comparison to their peers, proper action should be taken to the delinquent student. The classes are nice and teachers do care about students, but some grade levels can truly exhaust teachers which makes it harder for seniors who often have their classes with a certain teacher after they finish teacher sophomores or juniors....
