As a Hockaday alumna, I can say that attending the school was one of the best decisions I ever made. Hockaday provides a rigorous curriculum that empowers young women. Moreover, the academic demands more than prepare students for all college environments. While many of my peers struggled with the transition to college, I found that my college courses were easier than those at Hockaday.

Additionally, Hockaday offers a myriad of unique opportunities for students to explore, from spending a semester in Switzerland to participating in the ISAS fine arts festival (one of my favorite memories). The school values the whole student, and this is evident through their core values: character, courtesy, scholarship, and athletics. This school is a gem, and it encourages its students to become women who pursue their interests and make a difference in the world.

I love the Hockaday School. I started in fifth grade, and I didn't think it could get any better- then I reached high school. I made the best friends here, friends who I love getting into stimulating/ thought-provoking conversations with. The teachers put lots of time and effort into helping the students understand the material, and they try to make the classes interesting. The classes are all engaging, rigorous, and impactful. The science department is incredible; the students are encouraged to find the answers through experimentation, just as professional scientists would. The science labs are all extremely modern. The campus is big, but not overwhelming, and it is beautiful with flowering trees and statues everywhere. Hockaday offers a wide variety of sports, including rowing, fencing, and golf. In addition, Hockaday has a great debate team. They had a team go to Nationals this year, and we are able to travel to other campuses to compete. The debate coaches are exceptionally good.
Discouraged by the latest news story about the school. Hockaday culture is permeated by perfectionism and wealth. Students are no doubt receiving a top-tier education from best-in-class teachers, but the school might not be acknowledging its flaws as transparently and head-on as it should. It would be encouraging to see Hockaday step up and become a transformational leader in student health and well-being, race relations, economic diversity and educational access rather than just paying lip service in their marketing materials and on their website.
