The Hockaday School is an independent, college preparatory school for girls of strong potential and diverse backgrounds who may be expected to assume positions of responsibility and leadership in a rapidly changing world. Hockaday is the nation's largest prekindergarten through grade 12 independent girls' school. Ranked among the country's finest college preparatory schools, it was founded in 1913 and continues today to build on its original Four Cornerstones: Character, Courtesy, Scholarship, and Athletics.

Dr. Laura Leathers, the Eugene McDermott Head of School and Nicole Escudero Christenson, Head of Middle School and some of our current students will give a brief presentation about the Hockaday program.

As an educator that has been around schools and students for a very long time, Hockaday is an impressive school. As educators, we understand that there is no difference in what boys and girls can learn, but there many differences in how they learn. Hockaday's curriculum is rich and intentionally designed for girls. It offers an environment that fosters curiosity and challenges girls to safely take risks. Every girl is prepared to be a lifelong learner and is empowered to find and use her voice. Through the innovated Institute for Social Impact, Hockaday provides their students with diverse experiences and engagement with people from the greater Dallas community who foster connection and individual growth. Hockaday provides a powerful and transformative experience for their students. Wow!!

Review The Hockaday School

This is for the middle school. Aimless, negatively socially competitive environment that discourages initiative and curtails opportunities save for the specialist student. This school has severely curtailed the opportunities my daughter could have had in sports, the arts and academics. The school encourages a monoculture where you are good at one and only one thing that defines your contribution to the school's fame. If you're a normal student getting good grades and interested in learning and experiencing different sports and arts, this is not the school for you. If you're obsessed; training day and night for one and only one thing that you might hate because you're boxed in, this is the school for you. It does not educate thoughtful leaders in any way. On the contrary, it produces automatons that fit right into the status quo, for the purpose of perpetuating it.

The extra star is for a few fine teachers who are good to the students but get little of the otherwise wasted tuition.

Lower school is the only division that is as good as Hockaday purports itself to be, and even then the extremely over-inflated tuition means that you could likely get an experience of similar quality elsewhere. Middle school is awful anywhere, but Hockaday does nothing to make it better. The only good part of middle school was the French department. Upper school is an abomination. The Head of Upper School has tried her best to destroy any student-faculty relationships by making insane changes to schedules without the approval or input of students, parents, or even teachers. The environment is toxic, and most students who have been here for multiple years have deep-seated anger toward the school. As someone who has been here since prekindergarten, I can recall over 10 incidents in which the school acted carelessly and took away the chance to have experiences that every other grade had had. The school sees students simply as tuition, and as such their well-being is NEVER prioritized.
