Westlake High School Reviews
Rating 4.23 out of 5 518 reviews
I would give this school 4.5 stars, but I'm going to lower it by one point.
This school was incredible at preparation. College was easier than many of the classes and workload I was given at Westlake. That being said, if you want to do a variety of activities, you will be out of luck. Westlake is excellent for kids with a focus. If you want to be a track star, choir kid, theatre kid, band kid, you can definitely find and explore your niche to the highest potential!
That being said, if you are looking for a school where you can do everything, that is not possible here. I did AP classes and just theatre by the end. I was pursuing musical theatre, and that really wasn't available to me. I would have had to only do choir, and their theatre training really isn't there. They are music focused, and, when I went there, have a very Christian focused program.
The school is difficult, very stressful, but does prepare. There is an expectation that you will be a successful college grad.

I have been a student in the Eanes Independent School District (EISD) for my entire academic career. I started at Cedar Creek Elementary (CCE), moved to Hill Country Middle School (HCMS), and am currently a Senior at Westlake High School (WHS).
I realize how fortunate I am to be a student at WHS due to its superior academic curriculum and high-quality staff. As a person with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) I have faced challenges. However, the resources available within EISD have allowed me to persevere and achieve academic success.
The resources available at WHS, as well as CCE and HCMS, are not on hand in every school district. I am blessed to have been educated within EISD. My counselors and teachers at WHS, along with the books, computers, and other supplies, have allowed me to overcome the academic challenges presented by ADHD. This has resulted in my overall comfort in attending school and associated academic success.
WESTLAKE NATION BABY!!!!! GO CHAPS!!!!!

Westlake is a school that, for the most part, has everything. Top notch sports (including one of the best football teams in the country) compliment successful academic teams (think UIL and Olympiads) and more AP offerings than you could ever hope to take. That being said, the atmosphere here is heavily competitive and for many stressful. Even with a newly reworked GPA system, playing in the band, participating in speech in debate, or playing school sports are sure to make it very difficult if not impossible for anyone to find a high academic rank at this school. Juniors regularly take 6-7 AP courses and every point counts in classes because of the 100-point GPA system. All A’s with 5-6 APs by senior year likely won’t make the cutoff for top 10% of our graduating class. Teachers can also have very high expectations. When everyone in your class is studying for an A, it comes to be seen as the norm. But at the end of the day, if you work hard, you can accomplish a lot here.
