Junior: The best part of my experience at UPHS is the connection and relationship between students and office staff. I enjoy walking into the office and everyone knowing my name instead of seeing me as a number or just as a student they recognize me and treat me with respect. However, the worst part about my school is the lack of consideration, our teachers tend to assign work and exams as if we were in their shoes. They tend to act as if we knew as much as they do in their field of study. Senior: As a student in the Academy of Engineering, I have learned the basics of different engineering programs and the general education classes are connected to what we learn in the pathway. Senior: Entering High School may seem difficult and overwhelming, and sometimes it is. High school is meant to build a person’s character and encourage attitudes of cooperation and togetherness. My freshman year was over Zoom, so I could not make friends or enjoy the “typical” experiences that come when entering high school. When it came to choosing my electives for sophomore year, I decided to take a chance on Student Leadership. I also decided to run for sophomore class vice president. I did not win, but I was accepted into the ASB program by Mrs. Aston. Student Leadership not only provided me with experiences that did not seem possible when I was a young quiet freshman, but it has pushed me outside of my comfort zone past the boundaries I had set for myself. I am grateful to Mrs. Aston for taking a chance on that timid fifteen-year-old because I can now say that I am nothing like that girl. Senior: My experience at Visalia Technical Early College is I’ve been attending this high school since freshman year when Covid happened, which difficulty risen and adjustment were made but once everything was in the clear to go back to in person schooling I explored what VTEC had to offer me. With the help of my AG teachers they supported me and my goals. They pushed me passed my comfort zones and taught me skills over the two years I was an officer for FFA and the competition I did for the organization which taught me how to work in team and groups with different perspectives. I also had the chance to be in ASB which brought my creativity and artistic skills to the light. I also found a passion to advocate for kids that are like me who didn't know how to stand up for what they want and I found that helping kids and improving the environment that they are surrounded by is what I enjoy to do. Parent: The worst part is that our school gets a bad rep and good families that live in the boundaries will put their kids in a different HS, which perpetuates the problem. Senior: Monache High School is such a good school for many reasons. To begin, Monache is probably the school I have seen with the most school spirit which comes to show many people like this school. Another thing is that people at Monache High are so welcoming and will never feel like you feel like you belong. It is my first year here at Monache, I did move from Salinas, CA and it was a hard change but ever since I got here, it has been such a smooth transition and I am glad that I ended up here. Senior: I loved the environment involving school spirit and the connection I felt to my classmates through organized sports and clubs. Our music department is phenomenal as well. Sophomore: My experience with the school isn't that bad. It's like the name says, "Independent Studies" so if you fail it's kinda your fault. Yes they do kinda overwhelm you with hw, thats the downside but it also increases your time management skills and organization in a way. Do I love the school? Not really, I feel like when I went in person I wasn't invested in hw 24/7 while at VCIS I am. The extracurriculars the school offers though are awesome. So that's pretty cool, one main upside. My best experience at VCIS is that the teachers are friendly. My worst experience was that I felt unsupported. Senior: My experience at Mission Oak is pretty great. I am entering my Senior year at Mission Oak this year in hopes to accomplish my goals and become more involved. Mission Oak has been a great place and with the peers I met, it feels like a second home. Mission Oak isn't only great. There were dark points in which teachers wouldn't grade my work and when they did they graded them last minute. At the end of the year, I would have work missing, and the teacher I had claimed she couldn't do anything about it. This specific teacher wouldn't answer emails. Senior: My overall experience has yet to be great. Lindsay Senior High has many great opportunities for us students. I was able to become a dual enrollment student, I was allowed to be taking college courses while being a high school student. I have completed 1 college course and am currently taking 2 college courses which are English and Child development. Senior: There are many ups and downs with my experience with Orosi High School. I come from a very rural area with low income families and where we are surrounded by poverty. Although I come from a rural area, this community is very caring and supportive to students. I get a lot of support from my counselors, staff, and teachers. I feel like we have many resources that we have here in Orosi High School but most students don't take full advantage of it. I would want to change the facilities and curriculums here in Orosi High School so that students have many more options of classes they would choose from. Teachers are very supportive with your academics and are willing to help each and every one of their students. With low income here, I want to see more opportunities for students to go to college without having any financial struggles.
