Master's Student: The biggest benefit I've noticed so far about the Data Science Master's program at Stanford is the relevance and quality of the material I am learning as it pertains to working in industry. The curriculum seems to cover all of the material necessary to become an entry level data scientist, with good breadth and depth -- I can verify this from working in data science internships during the summer. Also, Stanford is the Mecca of Statistics. In just one year, I have taken several classes from influential academics who have written textbooks and done research that everyone references in industry and academia. The people you will learn from here are often the people who invented fundamental tools and building blocks: Rob Tibshirani, who co-authored Elements of Statistical Learning and was an early developer of Lasso Regression; Joe Romano, who co-authored Testing Statistical Hypotheses; Stephen Boyd, who developed the field of Convex Optimization.... Master's student: The tools for online learning at USC are great. They've made the process virtually seamless for those of us participating in distance learning. The professors in the graduate program are knowledgeable, helpful and passionate about what they do. I've not yet finished my graduate program but have already made connections that are helping me move forward in my career. While the price tag for my masters may be higher than other schools might have been, I believe it will be well worth the extra investment. Master's Student: While at my community college, I faced the financial struggles of having to help pay for living expenses at home requiring me to work two jobs. My father worked as a construction worker and experienced a significant accident, making him ineligible. I worked at a child development center as well as a fast food restaurant in the evenings, in order to do my part. Academically I excelled and enjoyed going to class as well as aiding the lead teacher at the child development center I worked at. I received compliments from people on all ends about my work ethic, positive mindset, and ability to excel. I earned my associate degree and moved across the country to pursue change and new learning opportunities. I feel confident in my decision to complete my master's of science degree, especially at University of San Francisco. As an international student, grasping the material can be challenging. I ask questions for clarification, and most of the time, I receive helpful responses. Interestingly, one of my professors frequently mentions having a hearing problem whenever I ask a question, which seems to be a unique occurrence. While I acknowledge that my accent might occasionally pose a communication challenge, I'm confident that I speak really good English, which is in fact my first language. Nevertheless, this experience can be discouraging at times, making me hesitant to actively participate in class discussions. Master's Student: I have been incredibly impressed with the graduate program at PLNU! Admissions have been available since before classes started, excelling with communication to make sure I feel valued and taken care of as a student. My professors are knowledgeable and leaders in my field (Kinesiology) and are readily available to answer my questions. As a full-time working professional, it has been very manageable to balance work and school, a testament to the flexibility and understanding of the faculty and staff. My one remark for room for improvement would be to switch to more in-class lectures when possible. Current Master's student: San Diego State University has a wonderful Part-Time Master’s in Business Administration program. The program is flexible so students can take the classes that fit their full-time work schedules and complete the program in the amount of time most suitable to their career goals. The professors are professional, understanding, and exceptional in the subjects they teach.
