Parent: Nex+Gen is the perfect place for any kid comfortable with difference who wants to learn! The teachers are great, the school is well-run, and the clique culture common in larger schools is largely absent, or at least quite muted. You can be different, eclectic, or odd and still be accepted and included. (This includes everything from political outlook to gender identity.) Nex+Gen is an APS magnet school, not a charter, so students and their parents proactively choose to attend it, seeking out a good learning environment. Having to still work within the APS bureaucracy is perhaps the school's biggest challenge, because it can not fix some issues alone, having to rely (at least in part) on district services and policies (from HVAC to IT to discipline policies). The project-based learning model is a breath of fresh air and effective at teaching students both discipline-specific content and soft skills like teamwork and presentation, leaving them well-prepared for careers and college....
