Senior: I loved my four years at La Cueva because the school spirit and community was amazing. They take a lot of pride in their academic and athletic accomplishments. They have great dances, pep rally's, band performances, clubs, teachers, and students. The security guards are super sweet and always make sure students are having a great day.La Cueva also has a great tutoring program for students that need help with subjects they are struggling with.The janitors do a terrific job keeping our school clean and beautiful. Senior: In my experience attending Los Alamos High school, I have come across all types of experiences, ranging from really positive to really negative. Some of my most fond memories from the school still come to my mind every day, whilst some are memories I'd rather forget all together. I can attribute my best experiences to the teachers, students, and staff. This high school has been a very substantial part of my education. The academic side of the high school is through the roof. Although, the most negative experiences have been from unqualified teachers, how poorly some staff members handle situations, and the amount of times I've needed help personally, but felt I had nobody to talk to. Parent: Diversity of students at school is above other LAPS schools with a wonderful group of students from out of district enriching the school. New principal, Mrs. Lynne, is excellent so far having started in Summer 2016. Office staff is extremely helpful and welcoming. Current counselor is excellent and has been very helpful to our family. Middle School Student: Good enough. The teachers are great and most of the material is taught well. The way they organize the students is good and creative. I wish some of the teachers were a bit more flexible in how they get the information across, and there were a larger amount of different core classes you could take. It prepares its students well for High School though but isn't the most efficient in keeping the students kind and motivated. The school spirit is okay, but it is a bit overboard in trying to keep the students in check, which gets them a bit more out of line. It offers great computers and other supplies to the students, allowing them to expand their learning capabilities, and still keeps a good balance between work done online vs. on paper. It doesn't assign an overwhelming amount of homework, but there is quite a bit, so I would consider that before sending your child here. Works Here: It is the best "Southside" school in Santa Fe. The teachers are experienced. The students are well prepared for ant school they transfer to, including SF Prep and ATC. The music program and music teacher s are the best fpr elementary students in Santa Fe, if not in the state. Senior: East Mountain High School is a preparatory school that intends to get its students ready for college classes. I love how small my school is and the teacher-to-student ratio. This has helped me get the extra tutoring and grow strong relationships with teachers. Since my school is located in the Sandia Mountains, I feel very safe and happy to be out in nature. I do wish that our school did have a cafeteria, which would increase social interactions and keep from us sitting on the ground. I also wish that we had more diversity in our student ethnicity. Most of our school is White. I also feel like our campus could use a little renovation since we are in big trailers for school. Freshman: Absolutely great school!! I have been coming to this school for the past year and a half, starting in 8th and now midway through 9th. As for academics it is the top in New Mexico. Since the school is using the International Baccalaureate system, students are challenged yet prepared greatly for university. We have seniors going straight into sophomore year in college. With the rigorous system, anyone who gets the IB Diploma has the advantage of getting into better college programs. Our school is only lacking in athletics. But since the school is growing, more teams will be formed in the next couple years. For now we only have middle school teams in volleyball (girls) and basketball (both). All students are allowed to play for other public school teams in our district. Parent: I think that MLK has been a fabulous school for our three kids. We feel very lucky with the teachers they've had. The enrollment has dropped quite a bit I noticed because of the new school opening up and a lot of kids moving to Maggie. It's now around 680. Although the PAWS (after school activities program) hasn't started back up this fall due to the pandemic, it's such a wonderful asset to the school and really well run. The parents and administration have worked hard to make sure that this school has great extracurricular offerings. They also have a STEM lab. Senior: Cottonwood is an amazing school! Every teacher is dedicated to making each student feel at home. Although the workload can be a lot at times, it really has prepared me to know what college is like. It gives students a very good work ethic, and after being at this school for five years, I have learned so many things that have helped me in the real world. I love that this school offers so many different electives to help students get their creative juices flowing. As a senior this year, the IB Program has trained me to think like a college student. I will be very prepared when I graduate and will understand how lessons will be taught in college. I am very pleased with how this school runs and addresses important issues. This school is my home and is a safe place I can turn to. I have created so many friendships with kids in my classes as well as my teachers. Senior: The Academy for Technology and the Classics is an incredible school. It is fairly demanding in terms of homework as most high schoolers are highly recommended to take around 7 AP classes throughout their high school years. ATC unfortunately does not offer many sports (only cross country, track, basketball, soccer, and esports), electives, or extra-curriculars, but makes up for it with a great environment. It has a very unique campus as most hallways are outdoors. The smaller class sizes make it much easier to have more connections and grow closer with the whole class. Alum: St. Pius X prepared me well, not only for a Ivy League degree, but for life. On top of the academic preparation, a wide breadth of cocurricular classes allowed for exploration into different passions- some of which I still hold, such as film photography and weight lifting. Athletically, the coaches and teammates I was blessed to compete with all touched my heart, many of whom I still keep in touch with. Aside from the great teachers, courses offered, and stellar athletic teams, the diversity of the students and emphasis on living out the Catholic faith taught me to always love your neighbor. I would argue that this aspect is what makes St. Pius X so special. I would always recommend St. Pius for students and parents looking to have a well rounded, wholistic high school experience. Junior: This school is so amazing! Yes it's smaller that the bigger high schools in the city, but the classes, teachers, admin, and staff are so much better! There are only about 50 students per grade which allows for smaller classes. These small classes grant the ability to have more one on one time with teachers and staff. All the teachers are specially picked and have excellent training. Also because our school is small, you never get lost. We are also combined with Career Enrichment Center (CEC), which provides us with incredible career classes like World Languages, EMT, Nursing Program, Forensic Science, Vet Med, and so much more!...
