Over my time in LAHS, one thing has become very clear: despite the facade of a diverse, welcoming school with an enviroment conducive to learning, the school is exactly the opposite.
The most worrying issue with is poor administration. Their misguided tactics resulg in a culture of unchecked misogyny and racism. Complaints go ignored, and methods for preventing bullying are shockingly lenient. Administration and counselors are notorious among students for their lack of sympathy. Reports of blatant bullying are ignored or silenced.
Many teachers, especially in STEM fields, fail to effectively teach anything; instead students must rely on their parents to get good grades.
The bottom line is: if you're willing to teach your child what the teachers should be teaching them, and pay for the therapy to recover from the trauma of attending LAHS, then go ahead and send your child here. If not, stay away.

I have attended LAHS for all my high school years and it has been a great experience. The school here is vigorous and prepares you to have high course loads and ensures you are able to move at fast paces. The AP classes really help you move towards college cirrculum and greatly help you understand the material. Over the years though, administration has become poor and has mishandled many situations at school. They are placing the wrong priorities first and this leads to LAHS values and morals to be lost in the process. While many of the teachers are great, there are also a multitude of terrible ones which you receive little to no assistance from. Thankfully, all teachers are required to have office hours everyday for 45 minutes and are open to any student, regardless if the student is in their specific class.
Los Alamos High School is overall a really great school, and it provides many aspects that are great for students, teachers, and parents. There are two big things that make the high school as good as it is, those being the academics and the cost. Every teacher in the school makes it their biggest priority to give us the education we need in life and to complete the curriculum. It is also a public school, meaning it does not cost anything to attend, which is one of the biggest benefits because it does not take away money from parents who are able to use it to further provide for their children. These factors along with the location make the hilltopper community pretty close together. The only real issue I, as a student, have noticed with the school is how on occasion the teachers or the administration use their power to restrict unnecessarily or dish out unwarranted punishments while not taking other issues as seriously as they should. Despite these flaws, LAHS is a great school.
