Senior: Los Alamos High School is very rigorous in academics for a public school, so most kids go to college very prepared. The teachers are usually pretty good, although in a small town, there aren't many options for teachers, so bad teachers don't get fired. The music program is very good, and offers many opportunities to explore music. The sport departments are decent, and the school has many competitive sports that often win district or state championships. I think the school needs to improve upon mental health resources. Because of the highly academic nature of the school and the community, I feel the mental health of students is significantly worse than it is at other schools. There is also rampant drug and alcohol use among the students, which likely does not help students' health, mental and physical.... Read 24 reviews

Senior: It is a very good school that has excellent staff and teachers. I have had a great experience at the school and there are a lot of extra curriculum programs. One downside of the school is a lack of music programs, which is very unfortunate. The school has a great sports program and a large involvement in FFA (Future Farmers of America). Senior: Des Moines Municipal school is a great school. Because the school is small, more hands on activities are allowed. This makes it easier for students to engage more in class discussion. Also, more one on one with the teacher is more beneficial for the students to have a full understanding of the subject they are learning. I am currently a senior at Des Moines and I truly believe that they fully inspire me to become sucessful and motivated for my college years to come. Also,Des Moines has a good athletic program. The coaches push us students to do best in high school and our work to become more sucessful.That is why the Des Moines highschool is one of the highest ranking in education in the state of New Mexico.... Junior: In Artesia Public schools, I love how much all of the teachers really care about the students, you can tell all of them really want to help you and make sure you do well in life, especially my counselor. I also love how much our school trusts us by giving us different responsibilities, like for instance letting us have off campus lunch. This not only lets the students have a responsibility and also a bit of freedom, but also builds this mutual understanding and respect between the faculty and students creating a better environment overall.... Alum: I'm a fourth-generation resident of Corona and a third-generation graduate. There is no other district in the state (OK, I'll admit a little bias) that takes such a personal interest in students. It's all, ALL! about the kids. From academics to FFA/4-H, to sports, they just excel. Many of our teachers/staff/administrators/volunteers are my fellow graduates. The other "adopted" Corona natives are more invested than any big school district I have covered (25-year journalist in NM and TX.) I've seen the world and would not praise more highly any district in the state of NM, for academic and extracurricular excellence, as well as general, community-based "you are all OUR kids" attitude than Corona Schools.... Alum: I just graduated from Animas and I can tell you I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere else. It is a very small school so there may not be every sport available, but at our school everyone does everything. There is no such thing as stereotyping because here the most of the students play football, basketball, and track, while also doing drama/theater, FFA, and mock trial. Those same students can also be in NHS and student council. It is also easier to get a ton of scholarships in our small town because you have 14 kids graduating instead of 400. There are a lot of community scholarships as well because the community and the school are work hand-in-hand to make sure the students thrive. We also have amazing counselors and teachers that help the kids to their individual needs and help the with scholarships.... Read 2 reviews

Alum: Everything about this school was great. I went to school there my entire tenure. I experienced it as we transitioned into a new school building. My favorite thing about this school is the student-teacher relations that get developed because at bigger schools that wouldn't be optional. I do miss it, but I am fortunate that I am in college now as it pushed me into the right path. The change I would have liked more is more college readying classes as well as some life skill classes. I think some students after high school may struggle with everyday tasks such as how to do laundry, cook, etc. because they were dependent until they moved on in life.... Read 3 reviews

Senior: I do wish there was more programs for the arts, as my school is mostly athletic based. But the school is good overall, it’s small and that lets teachers get to know students, and what they need to succeed. All in all, it’s pretty good. Senior: Love the school and teachers! You can tell especially during this hard pandemic crisis that the teachers genuinely care about the students and they are putting their best foot forward. I have learned so much more since moving from Bernalillo Public Schools to Rio Rancho. The programs are much more organized and information is expanded on enough for one to understand concepts. Rio Rancho public schools sees their importance in the community and strives to make a difference while teaching their students how to do the same. Teachers and staff have never been easier to contact and that gives me and a lot of other students a sense of security.
