Niche User: I attend college branched from NMSU-las cruces, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Because I am enrolled in the branch which is a 2-year undergraduate program, anything beyond this you would need to transfer to the main campus which is located in Las Cruces. I have attended both, and the main campus has grown a lot since i first attended. There is much more housing and accommodations to students on campus. It is a great college and campus to attend. The nursing program is in particular, excellent. They have very knowledgeable instructors and mentors to help guide you on your path to your career.... Read 61 reviews

Current Master's student: I really love the Nutrition program at UNM. The professors are all extremely knowledgeable and are helpful with anything you need. The schedule of courses is a good basis and allows you to experience different aspects of Nutrition. The campus is clean although it is in a bad part if town. Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. I have taken night classes and have never been afraid on campus. I only wish the Nutrition program could expand and offer more in depth electives to allow students to focus on specific skills needed. For example, the Nutrition Care Process and practice with physical exams and and expansion of medical nutrition therapy topics.... Read 79 reviews

Other: I only have general classes done at the moment. I will be officially entered into the Social work BSW program once I have twelve more General credit hours. I have always been curious about the inner workings of child welfare since I was in middle school and had wanted to foster children in the future but I never thought about entering the Social work field myself. I had originally entered college to enter the field of teaching so I have quite a few child development courses under my belt, due to that I felt that I had similar enough education requirements to make the switch in my field of study. I chose to make that switch because due to the poor health I've had since Childhood going to school longterm is no longer an option for me and with the social work BSW program being only 59 school credit hours, I am able to enter the work force without having to obtain my masters unless I choose to do so.... Other: My education at Western New Mexico University was extremely helpful to my professional growth as an academic, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to attend that institution. I was able to have a great time while also gaining a significant amount of knowledge from each of my instructors. I participated in a few classes that were held online, in addition to attending a few classes that were done in person at the campus that is located in Deming, New Mexico. The content of those classes and what I had learned were both quite interesting to me. In addition to this, I had no trouble grasping the concepts that we were going through in class. Some of the instructors there were quite understanding when it came to situations in which you were unable to hand in your work by the allotted time.... Read 22 reviews

Current Master's student: Most higher education treats learning like a transaction, they give you knowledge for your money and time. But here, we show people how the ideas most central to our lives don’t live only within academic institutions or in the “intellectual experience”. They are matters of deep concern & importance to our society, & the idea that they are only for a “few” is deeply harmful & disempowering. I found the GI a deeply intimate experience, both in that you become intimately engaged with the texts in your private reading, & also in that the conversations you have around the seminar table require us to be intimate in community by revealing our ideas for others to question and interrogate, & by holding the ideas of others with a combination of curiosity, grace, & critical assessment. SJC is truly a democratic institution & laboratory to practice and experience democracy. I left with the confidence to learn anything and the skills to do so. The community is wonderful. Tutors are brilliant.... Read 2 reviews

Master's Student: The best part of my program was the careful attention and mentorship I received, and connecting with other creative writers in my cohort. The worst part was that my options to take classes outside my accepted genre track (there are four tracks: Poetry, Nonfiction, Fiction, and Screenwriting) were somewhat limited. There is an option to do a third year if you would like to do an additional emphasis. Aside from the twice-a-year residencies, the classes are all online, which is nice and flexible but if you don't like online learning or it doesn't work well for you, that can be a disadvantage as well. The residencies also have an online option if you cannot travel there. I enjoyed connecting with people from a variety of backgrounds in a variety of places, all interested in furthering Native American or Indigenous arts. One thing to keep in mind as well is that although inexpensive, IAIA does not accept traditional student loans, so you'll need to find funding/apply for scholarships.... Read 14 reviews

Master's Student: Honestly, the college is very welcoming and implements a transformational learning approach compared to the traditional academic style. Transformational learning is a format that encourages you to discover who you are as a person and what you will bring to the profession as a counselor. Currently, I am doing the format online. The website they use basically functions as a blog, but can be a bit confusing to navigate with how much there is to explore. Online classes mostly focus on your participation in zoom meetings, and there is a lot of readings. Yet, a lot of the books are offered online for free through the library. I do not find the format very friendly to those who are working, you need a job that will be able to accommodate your school schedule changing every quarter. Also, frequently check in with your advisor's in all areas to make sure they have everything correct (i.e., Financial Aid, Transcripts, Therapy hours, Practicum and Internship hours).... Current Doctoral student: Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine provides an atmosphere for admitted students where you finally feel like the competition is over. The entire student body and staff are collaborative and everyone wants to succeed. The schools success depends on your success so they will help you in any way possible.
