Sophomore: West Campus High School is the best school in its district and it shows throughout its academics. However has an institution, it lacks very heavily in certain fields. One of its largest fields it lacks in is diversity, the school has little to no diversity, majority of its students being Asian American, and there being less than 5% of African and Hispanic students although that is the majority of the population surrounding the school. The school also lacks in the amount of teachers compared to students. The average ratio being around 29:1 and most teachers go over there contract in the amount of students they're willing to take in a year. Senior: The best experience was getting to be a part of their annual multicultural assembly 3 times. It allowed me to meet new people from my own culture and different ones. Senior: I’ve been at this school since the 7th grade and I’m set to graduate in 3 months. Over the last couple of years I have met incredible people including some of my closest friends. I have made special connections with admin and more specifically my counselor and my freshman year P.E. teacher. Although a small campus I enjoy the environment as everyone knows each other. The downside of attending this school is there are not a whole lot of opportunities for sports outside of soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Although missing out on some “high school experiences” I do not regret attending SES. It has shaped me into thinking critically and learning how to use machinery and programming. It has also allowed me to socialize better. I am a member of the robotics club on campus, also known as The SEStematic Eliminators (Team 3598). Senior: The best part about my school would be that its very diverse so when working in groups we get to learn about each other's cultures not to mention the countless amount of projects we get related to culture so we are able to get a feel of one another's culture. A bad experience I had was with the math department. I believe better teachers should be brought out to teach the different math levels. I found myself having trouble catching up in class and I was told numerous times to just " catch up" on my homework and then I'd understand. I thought I had just received a bad teacher but then the next year I took an Algebra and Finance and it was a new class added. The teacher ended up having no idea how to teach the class and she also found herself teaching us wrong and not being able to solve the problems from the course she was given. Senior: My experience here at Elk Grove Charter has been pretty great. I recently transferred here during the last term of my junior year, and it has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I have only one teacher who I meet with and assigns my work, and over the year, we became developed a great relationship. It's a lot better for me to have one teacher that I can have one on one meetings with, and talk to about the assignments, my week, or just update her on how I'm doing in general. The best part is that I can move at my own pace here, which allows me to graduate in January 2024, rather than in May. Graduating early gives me more time to start my medical assistant program in the beginning of next year, and I can start my pathway sooner. The worst part is feeling overwhelmed with assignments, but I know that this is just a factor into graduating earlier. Senior: Meraki is, by no means, a traditional high school. Its abstract, avant garde approach to education fosters creativity, career readiness, responsibility, and self-advocacy in Meraki's diverse student body. What it lacks in organized sports, it makes up for with extracurricular activities such as the Outdoor Activity Club, Running Club, pickup basketball games, and two Quidditch teams. Having attended Meraki through distance learning, cohort programs, and the occasional COVID-19 outbreak, I can confidently say that Meraki has the best academic program of any school I have ever attended, and it wouldn't be sustainable without it's team of advisors. A group of passionate, knowledgeable individuals that each contribute different perspectives and teaching styles that work in unison to fulfill the needs of their students. Senior: Walnutwood High School has been such an amazing school although I have only been there for 1 semester I can say they are great all the staff and faculty are committed to their students success they have helped me so much.
