What I liked about New Roads School while enrolled was pretty much everything! This school takes a holistic approach to preparing its students for the rigors of a higher education as well as making a difference in society. The faculty, staff, and administrators, who truly became our friends and mentors, created a one-of-kind learning environment where I felt challenged, motivated, and encouraged to do my best. The enrichment trips I got to go on each year I attended the upper school, regardless of me and my family’s financial need, have had such positive effects on me—I still remember those trips fondly to this day. I could go on and on about New Roads School.

Although New Roads' small and intimate campus is not ideal, the community value that is buried within our small trailer classrooms is what I find to be the most special part of New Roads. There is definitely a range of different kinds of classes, which is really cool because you can take some easy and some hard. Sports are definitely a work in progress, but girls volleyball, boys basketball, and out swim teams have all done amazing this year, and I think that we are slowly building a reputation. Our theater department is fantastic, and we put on professional-like shows. You'll find that pretty much any race, religion, or sexual presence is tolerated and accepted. The school is so small that you sort of know everyone, and it's a very special feeling being apart of it. I know a lot of students here don't realize how lucky they are to be attending a school like New Roads, but it is really a unique and special place that will have you come out the other end being a better human being.
I should start with... I was one of the first students that attended New Roads School - back when we were in the upstairs of the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica. I attended New Roads from 1995-2002 (6th-12th grade). So I'm not sure how much the school has changed since. But it's still valuable to understand the roots of the school.

For me, NRS was a haven. I found myself academically challenged in a way that I hadn't been in local public schools. I also grew a lot as a person. We had classes called Mysteries and Connections, which taught me active listening, how to share my experience and how to hear others, and how to actively learn through discussion.

I am really glad that I went to New Roads. Thankful, really. It set me up on the journey to be the awesome person I am today.
