Don’t send your kids here. The Lower School riddled with problems. Pros: there's some great teachers, sports, after-school programs, reading programs. Cons: Math/Science lagging compared to public schools. They don’t teach kids how to critical think but to obey. Behavior program is punitive. They don't support children with learning differences. Administration doesn't support teachers nor pay livable wage. Every year large numbers of teachers/staff leave. The school is aware of many of the problems surrounding the lower school, and their solution? To increase enrollment as it will increase revenue. Yet, the current infrastructure cannot support this increase. Great school to help my family through pandemic. Solid stay-open plan. However, too many good teachers have left. Now taking on more students than can reasonably handle. Not the same school it was 2-3 years ago. They do great job recruiting new families. I wish they'd put in same effort supporting current students.
PCA is a wonderful school community that nutures and challenges students at every grade level. Learning in an atmosphere that is based on and also teaches Christian values is building a strong foundation for our daughter to be able to grow in and handle our complicated secular world. PCA is focused on educating the whole person and helping them achieve their own God given potential. Lots of extracurricular options and sports, even in middle school! And parent voices and involvement matter and are encouraged here.
To honor God joyfully by inspiring students to maximize their God-given potential. This is Portsmouth Christian Academy's mission statement. I am a student who has experienced all aspects of the school, whether its programs, community, or message, as stated above. After attending PCA for over a decade, I can say that all these aspects are prevalent and valuable.
While PCA boasts a stunning campus, a vibrant community, and a competitive environment, it is not without its faults. Staff and faculty at PCA are held to a high standard by the students, parents, and especially the administrators, who poignantly make routine faculty assessments. Nearly all teachers have and continue to exceed this standard. But there have been staff members, in the past, that have failed to reach these high standards, and the administration has taken complaints seriously and handled them accordingly.
The good triumphs any negatives I have experienced as PCA has been a great place to compete, learn and grow.
