I transferred to UMASS Amherst last spring halfway through my junior year, and I’ll say that it was the best decision of my life. I had gotten into UMASS as an incoming freshman but I was too scared to get out of my comfort zone and decided to go to a smaller school. But after almost three academic years I felt like that regret grow until I finally made the big decision to transfer! I’ve made so many great friends and I absolutely love my classes where I feel like the professors really enjoy what they are teaching! There’s also so many opportunities at the school and a lot of support systems put in place that I couldn’t have even imagined! Going to UMASS was the best decision of my life, and I can’t believe I’m going to be graduating from my dream school this spring!
The setting at UMass Amherst is wonderful. The environment is so beautiful with nature all around and spirited people. It is true when people call this place, Zoomass. But college is really what you make of it. I am not much of a partier but there are still so many opportunities within the school. Occassionally there are special events, cookouts, bouncy houses, petting zoos, concerts with great artists, and farmers markets. Its just a great place to explore around--especially when its literally in the middle of no where, its great to see what is around this "nowhereness". The food is also great! At first I found everything intimidating as a new student, but as soon as I got used to it, I found my way of self growth on this campus.
Overall, I have loved my time so far at UMass Amherst. The professors are amazing, as are the students, and the campus is perfect! It’s big enough to always have something to do, but not too large that it feels less like a unified campus. My only issues have been with housing and course selection. It seems like there are way too many students being admitted without increasing the number of housing and course options, which is obviously problematic. Getting the classes I need to graduate it difficult and it’s highly unlikely that you’ll get your preference of dorms.
