Alum: Amazing food, great dorms, and professors that changed my whole perspective on life. I got very sick of the institutional bureaucracy but that might have been true at any college I went to. Other students of color -- be very aware that this is a PWI in a major way, it can be VERY isolating and disheartening. If you go here, I encourage you to ask for support and hold your people close. They have a lot of funding opportunities for research projects and individual interest projects. Take advantage of their huge endowment and apply for grants to do things you're interested in! Senior: Coming from a person with extreme anxiety, going to UMaine was extremely scary at first. I was a nervous ball of anxiousness. After being there a couple weeks, it was the start to the best decision I could have ever made. I ended up falling in love with the university and the atmosphere of it all. I got to a point where I met amazing people, as well as professors who made me into a better person. I love going home to see my family and loved ones, but UMaine has and always will be my home away from home. I wish the weather wasn't so cold, but living up north, you don't have much of a choice. In the winter, it's extremely desolate. If you are a person who loves to cuddle next to their animal friends, then it isn't so bad! One thing I will always crave is OHOP, the best pizza place around. Just one of many great places. I wish I could go back and tell my past self not to worry and not to be so scared. Senior: Overall a pretty good school. I haven't had any major issues here; the professors and admin have been helpful, and the the classes have been decent. Housing and food could be worse. However, I quite hated the freshman housing situation. I wish that the school was a bit more accommodating to dietary needs, although there has been some improvement in the past few years. The area is also quite nice, and although you may hear complaints about the lack of activities or places to go I have never had that problem. Alum: The University of Maine at Augusta is multi-racial and has many opportunities and quality teaching that help students achieve most of their degrees. The professor is family with the student, which means they couldn't leave the student with an unconscious mind. When you have difficulty, a group or department of advice could help you get into the topic of your field. Freshman: The school is overall okay. The school is mainstreamed for Nursing and student who will play sports. They put a lot of time and money into our sports teams and the Nursing program which is what they are mainly known for. Luckily I am a current Nursing student and have had a good experience here so far. The nursing professors have been great. Small class size which is great to personally know your professors and get the help you need when you are struggling. Sophomore: So far love almost everything about UMA online. I just wish that when I went on vacation that it felt more like spring break, professors would often still count that as one of the weeks if covering a unit that was meant to take two weeks in total. I also wish that all professors started and ended units on the same general timeline, like Monday - Sunday or Tuesday - Monday its weird having each class's week start at a different point....
