Alum: I loved my professors and program at SMU! The campus is absolutely gorgeous and it's a really good size without being too small or overwhelmingly large. The school is in the perfect location for local restaurants and shops while being 10 minutes away from the nightlife of downtown and the entertainment of the districts. Overall, it was a god experience. The people weren't my favorite, but I was still able to find my own group of people that didn't give in to the "rich-kid" stereotype the school has. Senior: TCU has an incredibly inclusive and supportive community. The professors genuinely care about their students and want their students to succeed. Many have their PhD, with years of real-world industry experience. They are great resources as mentors both in an outside the classroom. The school spirit of TCU is unlike any other school. Students are incredibly proud to be horned frogs and hold lots of school pride. This year, students have been calling TCU an "everything school" because of our success in academics and across all sports. TCU has a great campus, with state-of-the-art buildings and facilities. The dorms are well-equipped and updated, and the recreation center is a great facility. The dining hall food in the BLUU isn't great, but there's plenty of dining options on campus (a healthy smoothie bar, chick-fil-a, Peet's, flatbreads, etc.) and others on University Avenue. Sophomore: I love William Carey University. I have been to three different colleges and can honestly say that there is a difference in the professors and faculty. They love to see their students succeed and cater to our needs quickly. The traditions campus is beautiful and offers multiple commodities like study rooms, library, and a student lounge. The professors are amazing and down to earth. Very willing to help their students and are quick with their responses. Freshman: I have been extremely blessed to be able to go to Wheaton College! One of the aspects of Wheaton that really attracted me was the community and they do it really well. There so many different clubs and groups that you can join, and I love all the groups that I am a part of so far! The food is great, though it can get pretty tiring after the eating similar food for a while. Nevertheless, the food and the people who serve it are amazing. The "ring by spring" culture here can be very intimidating so I suggest you take it slow and don't put pressure on yourself to date. College can be hard and lonely, but floor life can be amazing if you invest in it! I have met someone of the most amazing people, but again, don't put pressure on yourself to be friends with everyone. Pro tip: bring a humidifier; the air is DRY, especially in the winter!... Sophomore: I'm currently a sophomore on the hill, and one thing I can say for sure is that the professors are INCREDIBLE! I haven't had a bad professor yet. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I think it's because St. Olaf truly has amazing faculty. The school has its fair share of issues, like every college. However, it's a still a very special place; all the people are caring and fun, the campus is beautiful, and the community is vibrant. Personally, I like the small college vibe. It's fun having so many mutual friends and it's really easy to meet people! But if you're not someone who likes recognizing people frequently around campus, St. Olaf might feel suffocating to you. Alum: Pepperdine University is incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there - I loved my professors, loved the location, and loved the stunning campus. Everyone there was remarkably friendly, and when I switched my major to Art History, I felt very welcomed by the department and encouraged in the pursuit of my goals. My professors were eager to offer help and advice, and it was clear that they enjoyed their careers and loved teaching and mentoring students. The other classes that I took outside of my major (as part of Pepperdine's liberal arts curriculum) were also excellent. I found my religion classes (three required) especially fascinating; given that I was not a Christian student, all the material was new for me and quite enlightening. Senior: I think that John Brown University is an amazing place. The campus is beautiful! The buildings are super pretty and the natural aspect around the campus is absolutely stunning. There are amazing walking and biking trails around campus that are great for getting outdoors! It is a smaller university so it never feels too crowded and class sizes are great to be able to get to known your professor and feel a personal investment from the staff. Campus life is very engaging and super safe. It is not a very big party culture school but SGA does a good job in trying to engage everyone. Somethings that I would want to change about JBU is that I would like it if there were more meal options/ better food in the cafeteria. It is also hard because JBU is located in such a small town that there aren't many local things to do/ restaurants to eat at. Senior: College of the Ozarks is a working college, which means tuition is completely free. I gave this school a 4/5 because no college is perfect. It is difficult to juggle 15 hr work weeks, 15+ credits, attend mandatory convocations and chapels each semester, and also be involved with the community in your dorm, on campus, and the surrounding area; however, the benefits far outweigh the difficulties! Graduating debt-free is truly priceless, and the teachers and work supervisors I had there were exceptional. Alum: Dordt isn't perfect (no college is), but in my experience as a student for 4 years, I loved it. Dordt is a school that puts faith first and they really invest in making people feel welcomed and known. Freshman: What is Ouachita Baptist University. Well, the obvious answer is that it is a university, but OBU is so much more than that. After attending Ouachita for almost a year now, I think I finally have my answer to that question. OBU isn't just your average university. Every aspect of Ouachita feels like it was done with care and appreciation for students and faculty alike. One example of this is OBU's professors. Unlike many universities, Ouachita isn't massive. This allows professor's to connect and teach their students on a personal level. Whether this be inside a lecture hall, or inside a professor's home who invited you over for dinner( yes, they do that here). The campus is beautiful and is well maintained year round. Sophomore: Cedarville University is the real deal. If you are considering, you should absolutely, 100% go here. You would be surprised how possible that might be, definitely apply! To my experience so far (I have just finished my Freshman year), I would say it was very good overall. I am a Computer Science major, and the school is very hard at first, but you will absolutely get used to it (some majors are easy freshman year though) some not so much. The professors here are so amazing, class was literally my favorite part of the day. All were very willing to help during office hours, and all office hours fit into my schedule. People do get jobs here from what I have heard and seen and internships as well. People here all are ridiculously nice, think the nicest person you know, and that is everyone here. Cedarville is definitely conservative, but not absurdly so. The dress code is reasonable IMO. Lots of great speakers in chapel, school is very Christian, everyday chapel is a lot but good.... Sophomore: Hope College is a fantastic place to go to college. Ever since I've started studying at Hope, I appreciate their openness to diversity of belief. As a Christian, I appreciate that I've been given the opportunity to make my faith my own. The community is amazing. Each Sunday, the Gathering is a place where people come and worship in Dimnent Chapel. Hope is very accommodating to my needs and offer courses that fit my academic abilities. This is one of the things that helped me make my college decision. I would say that the student body is about 75% white, a majority is a mix of Christians and Catholics, so if you're not white or Christian, it might be a little difficult fitting in. Overall, Hope is a great school- they're accommodating, have a great community, decent housing and dining hall food, have lots of extracurriculars to help students get involved, and a beautiful, easy-to-navigate campus! Junior: All throughout high school my teachers would try to hammer this perception that in college, I would be truly independent and nothing more than a number in a classroom. This couldn't be further from the truth regarding CBU. The professors here generally care for their students and show teaching is their passion. Professors remind us on the regular that they're available during their office hours and are even willing to make themselves available for us whenever we had questions. Every Professor I've had thus far has prayed for us before we take an exam, this helped me feel less stressed. Campus life is fun. Dorm life is a great way to make connections. If you're an incoming freshman, I recommend you try and live in Smith/Simmons hall. Campus always has a lot of events going on all the time. Make sure you get involved!
