Parent: Having been at the school since its inception and assisting in many ways from start-up fundraising, marketing, assisting in the classroom and coaching, I can tell you that the Scholars’ Academy is a gifted school like no other. With my three children attending (one having had AWEFUL experiences in public school before being identified as twice gifted), they were able to freely explore their intellectual abilities and create solid lifelong friendships. All organizations have growing pains and our school may not be perfect for your student… that is an opportunity for the parent to find the right place where their student flourishes! The Scholars’ Academy lets kids be kids, have fun and learn at their speed. Being at SA is like a trip to the United Nations of Children. Our diversity is broad. Parent: As a parent of two Socrates Academy elementary school scholars I am thoroughly impressed at how much my children have learned and how happy they are with their teachers and classmates. Their teachers are always available to answer any questions I have about my children’s progress, while addressing my concerns with empathy and support. It is so inspiring to see such and active parent faculty involvement group that energizes school spirit while successfully fundraising for the school. Finally, the school is expanding into a state of the art high school which for me illustrates how much the School Board is investing into the development and growth of its students. I would love to see some improvement on the school lunch options and the older school building can use some improvements. However, all in all Socrates Academy is a beautiful diverse school and community. Works Here: My experience at UPA has been nothing but positive. All of the admin staff is very supportive and will help you with anything that you need. They work hard to make UPA the best they can. They give teachers feedback on their instruction, give resources for rigor, followed safety protocols during covid, and will communicate to parents and staff. The teachers here strive for growth for their students and communicate weekly with families, giving updates on their child's progress and are super friendly. Parent: As a parent, I love that my middle schooler can be part of school sports, without being exceptionally athletic. My son has grown so much from the experience of being part of a team, learning from caring coaches, and improving his confidence! The executive director is passionate about the mission and vision of Union Day School. The focus is on academics but also on the whole child. The staff seem very well supported by administration. The fact that my children can stay at one school from K-12, even if we move within the area is such a great feeling. As parents, we get to decide where our children go to school, and Union Day has the balance we are looking for. We left our zoned school because of the middle and high school behaviors our children were consistently being exposed to. Most schools have constant issues with bullying, vaping, drugs, skipping classes. At Union Day, our teens are sheltered from that, which was a top priority for our family.... Read 12 reviews

Alum: I attended Highland MIll Montessori from 2006-12. I really enjoyed my time there. Everybody was cool and knew each other well and I got a lot of one on one time with my teachers. Of course being in elementary school your going to run across other students who you don't really get along with, but other than that everything was fine. Now, everyone has a different experience and from what I have heard the school has changed drastically. Don't base your decision off of my words though because, like I said, things have changed. They got a new principle, a lot of new teachers, it may not be the same experience for you (or your child) as it was for me. Parent: I've had three kids attend Irwin. We love this school. There are great opportunities for the children and the classrooms are amazing. Even though it is an older building, there are many upgrades including a renovated (in the 90's - but the building itself is much, much older) interior and filtered water bottle filling stations. We've had much success with the teachers and admin at this school. I can't imagine sending my kids elsewhere. Alum: I was a student here during the time that the school was known as "Smith Language Academy" and "E. E. Waddell Language Academy". I was in the German program, and can wholeheartedly say that I have gained a life long skill and love for the German language, and intend to pursue study abroad in university. The exposure to cultures around the world at the school; with German, French, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish inclusion, was really taken to the next level for the students here and making sure that we truly immersed ourselves in our individual programs. I think a large part of the success, comes from the fact that all of the teachers themselves came from countries around the world and brought their heritage and experience into the classroom. Parents were also very involved, and connected in various events such as "culture nights" and the "world market night" where we students would participate in performances based on our countries. Works Here: As a seasoned/senior teacher new to Unity Classical this year, I can honestly say that this is the most phenomenal school I have ever had the privilege to serve. Unity is a top notch environment where your child will absolutely thrive. My own children are in their mid 20's and my wish is that they could have had the opportunity to experience Unity Classical's approach to a quality education. The administration is absolutely stellar, always focusing on the positive and giving all the opportunity to improve as an individual. Integrity from the top down. They truly care. How many schools really provide that atmosphere? Not many. Through the Virtues Program, students are given the opportunity to soar. Although other schools state they teach "towards the whole child", they don't. Unity Classical Charter is in a caliber of it's own. Alum: As a former student at MPTS (I am currently in 8th grade), I can tell you my experience here was great. The diversity is great, and the teachers were great. I can confidently say this was the best school for my elementary exprience. As for the academics, the classes are standard to what you would be taught at any CMS elementary school. What stands out about MPTS (Myers Park Traditional), is the Leader in Me. We were taught the seven habits and how to be a leader. This was the perfect school for me as I was able to confidently transition into Randolph IB Middlec School, where I am currently at. Safe to say, MPTS is the way! These are loved out every single day from dancing teachers at car pool, to the faculty and staff attending students' extracurriculars, to the loyal, loving principal empowering her teachers and their students, to brain breaks and sensory, kinesthetic, and neuroscience labs and Specials ... Smithfield faculty and staff go above and beyond. After 6 years of experience at Smithfield with my oldest child, I need time to slow down so that my youngest can enjoy his final three years at Smithfield being at a place where he loves to learn because he is loved and challenged daily.... Parent: My child has attended MCA since it opened. I think it is a good school for K-5, however I’m beginning to question whether my child is being challenged as she gets older. She will be in 6th grade next year and I’m disappointed by what I’m hearing from other parents regarding 6-8 at this school. I’m actually thinking of pulling her out next year and trying the public middle school instead. It’s a shame because she really did have a good experience in elementary here. Parent: We just finished our daughter's kindergarten year. For the 1st half of the year we had few complaints. All teachers were receptive to parental questions and issues. Even at the kindergarten level work by the student was expected. After Covid hit, the school really came through. Within days multiple online classes were setup. As time went on, through feedback and analysis these classes improved greatly. Five distinct, live classes were available daily. It worked out well. Parent: I love this school. At one point I had three of my lil ones in Pineville Elementary. The atmosphere was calm and sweet, everyone knows everyone. The way the office is set up that you can’t get in the building with out going through a couple obstacles. I love it. Staff is strict about the kids. They do not play. Mr. French is one of kind. This guy is so active in everything from drop off in the morning to cafeteria check in and being active creating memories with these kids. A pie to the face is every kids dream to do to their principal and he does it as an incentive. He doesn’t try stopping how to get the kids involved in their education and character development! Junior: I have been a part of Jackson Day school for around eight years now. As time passed, we have switched campuses, added many new buildings, and increased the student body size. While this school provides many fond memories, and continues with it's amazing Dual-Enrollment program, I am disappointed with the staff.
