Contrary to the “factory-model” of many schools (students move grade-by-grade through a standardized curriculum like a widget in a factory), we educate in multiage classrooms formed to meet the needs of each individual student.

During this hour-long session via Zoom, our director of admission, Rhea Egbert, will cover the hallmarks of the Montessori method and answer your questions about Early Childhood Montessori education.

Our School has a 37-acre satellite campus in Oak Ridge, N.C. This wooded oasis includes a 14-bedroom retreat center, a barn, a covered bridge spanning a freshwater stream, mature hardwoods, peaceful trails, privacy and seclusion, and diverse flora and fauna. It's where our students regularly visit to apply their academic learning, build community, and reflect on their personal and academic growth.

My daughter has been at GMS going on 12 years now. Hands down, it has been our family’s best investment. From toddler to (nearly) teenager, our daughter has evolved into a truly well-rounded individual. She is confident, mature, responsible and tolerant. She can manage her time, speak publicly, resolve conflict and take on leadership roles. In every 3 year cycle of learning, the teachers and staff at GMS have guided and nurtured my daughter’s educational journey based on her own individual strengths, weaknesses, interests, abilities and goals. She has had the opportunity to explore and experience areas of learning that would not have been possible in a traditional classroom setting - all while being challenged and supported academically. It never ceases to amaze us how much our daughter genuinely loves going to school! Between the school’s remarkable faculty and staff and the amazing community of parents students and alumni, GMS will always be a place that our family can call home.

Review Greensboro Montessori School

I first learned about GMS when I was seeking a middle school for my son, whose public K-5 experience had all but extinguished his love of learning. When I heard about the diversity of life skills - not just rote academics - that comprised the junior high curriculum, I knew it was the place for him. He spent the next three years gardening, dabbling in culinary arts, woodworking, learning his way around a sound board, making full-length movies, and spending lots of time in the natural world - all while caring teachers shepherded him through his academic learning in ways that brought "the standards" to life. Today, he is entering his junior year as a very successful college student, and still applying many of the skills and interests that were first seeded at Greensboro Montessori. I am now watching my youngest child thrive in GMS's junior high, and though his talents and interests are very different, they are still being met, nurtured, and celebrated. This is a truly special place!

We simple love GMS. My husband and I are continually impressed by how well the teachers know our children. We laughed and cried when we read their first report. A lot of emphasis was put on manners and life skills; Things that you need to learn any other subjects. They have met them where they are and scaffold their learning. It has a small family feel. Each classroom is a part of a larger community and everyone in the staff makes you feel welcome. Our children are learning to love learning. The classrooms are inviting, organize, simple yet complex, filled with different works that children get to explore at their own rhythm. GMS is academically, emotionally and socially nurturing!
