I learned so much about myself with my stay at Beacon Charter! It is a small learning environment with little to no academic pressures like normal public schools! The school incorporates art into the curriculum which improved my academic struggles greatly. I was able to better myself as an artist and person here. I improved my acting and it made me confident in my daily life. I made lasting friendships as well. This school isn't like a normal high school. I don't think I'll ever forget this place. It holds many, many dear memories.
Beacon is an okay school, not terrible, but it wasn’t great either. Many of educators seem to have lost interest in their job. The lack of diversity in the student body makes it easy for them to get away with ignorance. Beacon didn’t prepare me for college either. Since the teachers were lazy, I got to be lazy to. There are limited resources to actually prepare students for college. Additionally, the food was awful. Students would rather not eat lunch that eat what to school offered. Overall, the school does well socially, with events and art showcases. There wasn’t as much of a social divide as a typical public school. Due to a lack of teacher involvement, students tended to depend on one another for help, which made for a bond amongst the students and a great school culture.
Beacon is a great college preparatory school while at the same time allowing the students to study their art of choice. Each student creates a film for their senior project and my daughter found her passion in film making. She received an award for Best Narrative Film for her film that she conceived, produced and edited on her own. Her four years at Beacon Charter High School for the Arts were spent pursuing her passion for the visual arts which included painting and drawing, photography and finally film making all while preparing her for college.
