Alum: Portsmouth High School is above average academically. The classes are a good size so you can receive extra help if needed. The school spirit is high with an exceptional band and sports have top notch facilities. It’s a well kept school and the surrounding neighborhoods are nice and very safe. It’s a small island community where everyone knows everyone. The beaches are beautiful and Portsmouth High School is rated the highest in Aquidneck Island. I really enjoyed my 4 years at this school and loved participating in the band traveling to many events and parades. They have also made advancements in the technology department to keep up with current technologies. At the present time, they are renovating the school auditorium with a state of the art sound system and brand new seating chairs. All this through the donations of many of the parents and residents of Portsmouth and Aquidneck Island. I would recommend this school to everyone who wants a great edit for their children.... Senior: Overall my experience has been average. The administration could be more visible and present. I have had some great teachers and I think the majority care about the students. Senior: Smithfield Public Schools is a very small school system when compared to other schools. It's a pleasure to have been to a school where the teachers can really connect with you on a personal level. I'm not saying that every teacher was like that, just to be clear, but most of the teachers were very understanding if something came up and you needed an extension on some work. Teachers would actively urge you to take higher level courses trying to challenge you to further your education. The administration held big lectures to give us first hand experience on real life problems such as an Alumni Day talking about alumni's experience getting to college. However, the school system wasn't very structured well in my opinion. It always seemed like I was behind and didn't know what I was doing. Hopefully that can change in the near future to ensure that everyone thinking about going to Smithfield Public Schools is greeted with the welcoming teachers that I have had.... Read 31 reviews

Senior: I am grateful that I decided to attend and stay at Blackstone Valley Prep. Like any other school there have been ups and downs but I feel that regardless of what was happening my school stayed true to their core values which really helped mold me into the person I am today. I also feel that since the school was not relatively large, it gave me a better chance to build relationships and strengthen bonds with almost everyone in my school. Senior: My teachers were very kind and made sure we had what we needed to succeed. There were lots of fun extracurricular activities to take part in and I made lots of good friends throughout high school. Even through COVID-19, our teachers did everything in their power to make sure we didn't fall behind and did as much as we could to learn what we needed to learn. But our counselors were very unhelpful unless you badgered them constantly for help; even with college applications and advising. I had a nice high school experience, but I just wish I had had a bit more support, especially during my senior year when I was applying for college and writing lots of essays. Senior: My experience in North Providence, high school has been, one for the books. For me, it started with Covid I spent half of my freshman year at home and then then my sophomore year, going back and forth between distance-learning, and in person learning, I missed out on dances games, school events and a lot of other things that most normal high school experiences consist of. From a really young age i have suffered from anxiety and ADHD. And to say that has made school hard for me is understatement. I struggled with focusing getting things done on time being able to go to school getting out of bed, etc. Aside from all of this, I have pushed through all my difficulties to make something of myself I have passed all of my classes with that 80 or above. I am now in AP classes and committed to the University of Rhode Island while in all of this success, my anxiety and ADHD still exists but because of North Providence high school I have succeeded in so many ways I never thought possible... Senior: I liked how close the community was and how everyone knew each other since it was a small school. Even if you didn't know someone that well, it wasn't intimidating to talk to them. The teachers were mostly nice and gave you a lot of support. There were lots of opportunities to get involved in clubs and extracurricular activities and really make the most of your high school experience. Students and teachers all had respect for one another, and you could come to teachers if you needed help. There were opportunities to take pathway classes to prepare you for the career you might want to persue, and the school offered Honors, Early Enrollment, and AP classes across departments. One of the only negatives was that there was not a lot of diversity in the school. Senior: The school is old and needs to be updated but the teachers are dedicated and are willing to work with students. The school is diverse as it is located in a city. I do wish that it had a better reputation than it current does. I've met a lot of amazing friends here and expect to maintain those friendships for many years to come. The pandemic created a hybrid learning situation which was not a perfect solution but the administrators did a good job of following state mandates, maintaining safety protocols, and offering pooled testing. I ended up missing both my junior and senior proms, as well as many other important events in the lives of high school upperclassmen, but that was through no fault of the school. I wish it could have been different, but the pandemic has created this situation and the school has done its best to keep students engaged through virtual learning, community projects, socially distanced events, and outreach.... Junior: I personally love Dighton-Rehoboth High. What I like most is that the teachers are very involved with their students. They care about each individual students learning and make the effort to help them. They also provide comfort in times of need. These are the kinds of teachers you’ll remember for the rest of your life. I also love how involved the main administration is with not only the students education, but also their overall well-being. I’ve spoken to many members of the main administration and they are always very caring and understanding to our individual needs. The only downside to our school district is that a large percentage of the students are involved in drug use and it is very heartbreaking to witness. Sophomore: Honestly, in my current district, there are student and program diversity. There is some bullying in primary grades but it's not too bad. There are definitely many activities, clubs, teams, sports, or events for anyone or everyone. Academically, in my experience FRPS schools typically have above-average content and quality. I take all Honors and AP courses, they are challenging but are enriching, and valuable, they are also true to the core curriculum. I feel my education, is preparing me for higher education, my career, and the real-world. Though my classes are tough and stressful they are insightful, and I feel that they are worth investing in. Another bonus is that teachers try to engage students as much as possible. I will not lie, as a student, sometimes I have to immerse myself in bland or reoccurring topics.
