Lived there for about ten years. Live in New Bern now. A little run down but a fine place if you like a small town.
I have lived in Havelock for 6 years now. they need to bring in things for families to do things. like a bowling alley. the closest bowling alley is 40 mins away. I think everyone would enjoy that.
I like where I stay in Havelock Township because everyone here is family. Many people believe where I stay is not up to par, but the way I look at it our community has character in it. There is much scenery in my community and many nice people. The one thing I would change is that we do not really come together as community like we used to.
Crime rate is very high and not very family friendly at all. Only upside is that it is 30 minutes away from the beach.
Great place to relax and also many surrounding areas to shop and vacation. Close to beaches and Croatan National Forest. Many dining and shopping areas near by and the USMC base.
Most of the community that is residing here, is affiliated with the military and are based out of MCAS Cherry Point. Unless the people are retired or locally born/raised from the community, the military personnel pick up and are relocated every 4-6 years.
The year round events that go own in the local community are very entertaining and mostly free to the public. While there is generally always something going on or taking place, most of the patrons to these festivities are local residence. Atlantic Beach is a great tourist attraction. The Crystal Coast is a direct expressway to the beach, the aquarium, and many other fun attractions.
Some people choose to be relatively active, but its not a big deal if you're not. There are some local gyms that have moderately good business. The abundance of doctors and emergency facilities is very apparent and easily accessible.
For the most part this area is quiet and well rounded. I rarely have any problems when I take my children or animals out for the day. There is an amazing amount of activities to do in the community or surrounding areas all throughout the year. I would recommend living here to just about anyone.
The area we live in has a very abundant wildlife and outdoor community. We have a beach, river, trails, and a downtown historical district. There are also many parks and walking sidewalks available to the public as well as the one on the base. We also have an Aquarium and a National Wildlife Forest. Tons of great family/individual activities to take part in and enjoy.
The transportation is very average. most people drive their personal vehicles. I have seen a few people choose to walk/ride bikes. The near by areas toward the beach have ferry/train access.
There are many emergency medical facilities within our area. If something were to happen I would not feel immediately threatened or helpless.
Most people in the area will wave back at you. Others may tend to seem stuck-up. For the most part we live in a pretty average community where any particular identifier is dispersed and not to overwhelming.
There is a wide variety of places to choose from. There are a few locally owned places as well as the presence of large chains. The surrounding/ nearby areas also provide great nightlife.
There are a ton of different shops, both name brand and locally owned. They are dispersed widely throughout the community so you never really have to drive to far to receive the goods/service your after.
Many people have tried applying for jobs and have had no luck. Many of the jobs aren't high paying or very desirable titles.
