Arlington Reviews

I have lived a very safe and happy life in Arlington, but the de facto as well as the de jure segregation, especially in the 20th century, has caused Arlington county to be severely divided by race and income. I feel that this lack of togetherness, unity, and true diversity is slowing Arlington's progress and ability to truly be a home for everybody. The racial and wealth discrepancies between North and South Arlington are overwhelming, and the attitudes of many North Arlingtonians are worrisome to me. The Arlington public school system is also incredibly segregated and reflect the overall segregation of the county. This teaches students to be wary of those who are different from them, and discourages diversity, equity, and belonging. Arlington is known to be a very Democratic and progressive county, but I think that will only be true when the demographics of north and south Arlington are equally diverse, welcoming, and open to change.
I've lived in Arlington all my life, I went to elementary, middle, and high school here. I love that Arlington is a very safe neighborhood statewide. I've traveled to many other counties and cities in the US, nothing beats it. I'd most likely raise my children in Arlington, VA. Being 15 minutes from the nation's capital and 20 minutes from Maryland is a flex lol!
The only downside is that Arlington is solely but surely kicking out minorities by gentrifying all of South Arlington (where I grew up and where my parents own a condo).

(Young married couple no kids) Arlington is pretty much perfect if you’re wealthy. Great restaurants everywhere, easy access/commute to D.C., lots of nice new housing and apartments, and very clean. Like DC, things are extremely expensive (except for gas! Relatively…) Not very diverse but that comes with such an expensive area I guess. I was very surprised when I went on my first run In the Clarendon area because people seemed cold. If you’re not making 6 figures you’re not living comfortably out here. Real estate is extremely expensive, so as mentioned, if you’re wealthy the area is the best place to be if you want to be near DC and would like a bit more bang for your buck. If you need to be in DC and want to spend less, just move 10-15 minutes south and everything will be significantly less expensive (except for gas!). Also, it’s kind of unsettling how one-sided political opinion is out here.
