(Young married couple no kids) Arlington is pretty much perfect if you’re wealthy. Great restaurants everywhere, easy access/commute to D.C., lots of nice new housing and apartments, and very clean. Like DC, things are extremely expensive (except for gas! Relatively…) Not very diverse but that comes with such an expensive area I guess. I was very surprised when I went on my first run In the Clarendon area because people seemed cold. If you’re not making 6 figures you’re not living comfortably out here. Real estate is extremely expensive, so as mentioned, if you’re wealthy the area is the best place to be if you want to be near DC and would like a bit more bang for your buck. If you need to be in DC and want to spend less, just move 10-15 minutes south and everything will be significantly less expensive (except for gas!). Also, it’s kind of unsettling how one-sided political opinion is out here.
Arlington is great for college students! Lots of restaurants and places to shop. It is so close to Washington D.C. that it is easy to find internships, jobs, and other opportunities. You can take the metro from Arlington right into Washington and get to see all the museums, galleries, food places, and the monuments. Housing can be a little expensive so it is best to find roommates to split the cost. Everything is so close that you do not really need a car unless you want to travel out further than the metro or a bike can take you. Plenty of coffee shops and study places, and the mall is a nice place to grab food and do work. The local shops and businesses really like to employee college age kids and they pay good for a part time job. They make applications easy and will let you know quickly. There are several options for grocery stores that are pretty cheap depending on where you go. With it being a city, you can also have groceries delivered to your apartment which is awesome!
I've lived in Arlington for almost 18 years, and I really love it. It's the perfect mix of urban and suburban. There is plenty of outdoor space to enjoy. We are pretty close to the Capitol, so there is a lot of activity going on. There's many opportunities for entertainment and exercise in the area. It's a very wealthy area, so our government funded establishments are very strong and hold a wealth of resources for the community. Commuting to and from work is not super tedious. I know plenty of people who can easy walk, metro, or bike each day. I do believe that there is something great for everyone here, and there is always something new to explore!
