Oakland is richly diverse, and a hub of activity. It's libraries, business, and artistic communities are world renowned. Additionally, Oakland is nestled within close proximity to the University of California at Berkeley, and itself boasts quality academic institutions such as the California College of the Arts. Family and community friendly it is a good place to settle and build a life and a career, whatever your goals and objectives might be. And if you like sports, Oakland is home to undefeated, world champion, boxing Olympian Andre Ward; the famed Oracle Arena; and the world champion Oakland Athletic baseball and Golden State Warrior basketball teams! Oakland California come check it out!
I absolutely love Oakland, flaws and all. Many perceive the city as "rough" or "ghetto" and fail to see it's true beauty. Oakland is filled with history from The Black Panther Party, The Oakland Athletics, and the Arts such as the Grand Lake Theater. I've volunteered at the public schools (Fruitvale & Brookfield elementary) & came in contact with some of Oakland's brightest children. I run lake Merritt almost everyday and come in contact with the nicest people and most beautiful sun rises. This city does suffer from terrible housing, gentrification, and gang violence.. I would love to see (and am working to be apart of) improving this beautiful, cultured, city!
The diversity and community pride of Oakland makes this city a gem. The people make it one of the best in the world. There is always something amazing to experience: great food, music, art, and not to mention, it is one of the epicenters for social movements. People love to stay healthy and active here. Oakland encourages local pride with very few big chain restaurants and stores. Local stores and restaurants thrive here! There is always something unique in every neighborhood.
