Walnut Creek is a fun little city in the East Bay. The people are very friendly and open-minded.The highlight of this place is downtown, with over 200 restaurants and stores combined. There are a variety of places to eat or cafes from affordable (like fast food) to luxurious (such as rich cuisine), and many local favorites such as San Francisco Creamery and Mel's Diner. There are local downtown businesses and brand named retailers ranging from Old Navy to Macy's.
Public Schools: Elementary schools are about the same. There are two middle schools: Foothill and Walnut Creek Intermediate (WCI). Both schools are rated equally. Those who attended WCI usually attend Las Lomas (LL) High, and those who attended Foothill usually attend Northgate High. Most will say that LL is better.
Some weak areas: 1. Expensive, due to privileged folks 2. Crowded; within the 3 years I've lived here, around 5 new apartment complexes have been built in the downtown area.

I grew up 5 miles away from Walnut Creek and lived abroad and in 4 other cities/states within the U.S. I couldn't wait to get back home!
Walnut Creek is an increasingly vibrant hub for the whole East Bay. Known for shopping, walking trails and hills and excellent schools, the area is expensive because everyone wants to live here! Weather is warm in the summer and can be rainy in the winter, but overall, quite ideal!
If only Walnut Creek didn't have spiders! The public schools are great and really push their students to work hard to earn their grades - A's aren't handed out. There are a lot of local businesses, family-owned establishments, as well as big stores here. Downtown mall is nice to visit as well. It is however, a bit expensive to live here but well worth it as the streets are very clean and the city is always re innovating! One down side: there is a noticeable crime rate here. I've heard of cars being broken into even in my quiet neighborhood as well as mail box thieves in our condo area. I can't speak for the job opportunities or the nightlife (I do not take part) but all in all, Walnut Creek is great.
