I love my job so much! My bosses are great and the opportunities are as well. They are very flexible with schedules which is always super nice. I had some issues with my paycheck going through at the beginning, but it's mostly cleared up now.
I truly enjoyed working with the kids in the after school, before school and camp programs. I have gotten to know so many families and learn so many wonderful things that I did not know prior to working. I have learned some basic life saving skills that are useful when found in an emergency, such as CPR, basic first aid, and how to approach multiple types of an emergency scene. Along with emergency preparedness, I have learned how to work with others, which is a necessary life skill.
I've worked as a lifeguard for the Y for around 8 months, and it's a pretty nice job. When you get hired, they pay for your certification, and in return, you have to work for them for 3 to 6 months. It's a pretty easy job, make sure you do what you're told and pay attention at in-services and you should do just fine. They give you plenty of opportunities to grow like they offer swim instructor classes and my sister was promoted to aquatics lead for my pool after about a year of working for them. I have pretty good relationships with most of my coworkers, and if I have an issue my bosses will listen. The aquatics director puts education first so she's always willing to work around our schedules and doesn't fault you for leaving for school. Commuting to my pool is great, but traveling to the other pools can be a hassle sometimes because they're further from my house. The only downside is I'm not sure if you can get full-time as a lifeguard and the pay is only a dollar over minimum wage.
