I worked as a Cast Member for around two and a half years total; I worked as a custodial hostess and convention guide. Overall, it was really special being able to make magic for guests everyday and connect with others in a fantastical, fun, and immersive environment. I did work through the pandemic, which had its share of challenges--but it really helped me grow a lot professionally in my role. My custodial leadership really was amazing, so helpful, honest, and provided great feedback on performance. Unfortunately, as a convention guide, I felt that the leadership lacked connection with us. This affected my experience at the company, as I didn't feel very cared for or appreciated for the work I did at the theater. Many of my coordinators and fellow cast members were lovely though. Overall, I am so grateful that I had this work experience and it has laid the foundation for me to continue in my career.
Working at Disney world has been an experience in it of itself. Though management can be terrible at times, your fellow employees help make the place as good as can be. There’s ample room for growth and development both as a person and professionally. Although my location itself is not ethnically diverse, Disney as a whole has people coming from all paths of life working there. It is amazing to learn and experience working with other cultures around the country/world. We may not get paid enough for the jobs we do and long hours worked, but they do offer tuition assistance which relieves a huge burden off the shoulders of many. I do not see myself staying with the company forever, but I do believe this is an amazing stable job if you are seeking to achieve a career elsewhere or obtain a higher education.
Pros: Meeting guests from all over the world. Clean environment. Union for the hourly. Benefits for going into the parks and discounts.
Global Human Resources for complaints is receptive.
Cons: Mediocre to poor management. Repetitive motion injuries. High volume of guests. Strict attendance policy. Micromanagement. Overworked and underpaid. Hours are not flexible.
The company promotes getting a CoVid vaccine. The company says they are diverse but really they’re pushing an agenda to require the majority to accept a minority viewpoint.
