Starbucks is an extremely inclusive environment with many benefits, opportunities for growth, and opportunities to learn. I first began Starbucks in July 2021 as a Barista and in November 2022 I was promoted to Shift Supervisor. As a Barista, I was paid $12/hr, however now Baristas are paid $13/hr with the promise of $15/hr by July. As a shift supervisor, I am currently paid $16.25/hr with the promise of $20/hr by July. This is great compensation as I am still attending college and live on my own. Speaking of college, Starbucks will pay for your college tuition if you attend Arizona State University online. If one would like, they offer health benefits! So many opportunities and benefits are available through Starbucks. My one issue lies with a few of the customers in my area. I live in a wealthy community and at times, customers can be very opinionated and at times these attitudes can create a stressful environment. Overall, I have had an amazing experience at Starbucks.
My name is Dejay Pena, I've been working at starbucks for about a year now and i would have to say its one of the best jobs I've taken up. My manager is the sweetest manager ever, shes sweet, and cares about the employees, shes understanding when it comes to short notice call-offs, schedule changes and questions. The co-workers make the experience 10 times better. Every person I've worked with helped me come out of my shell, I was given the opportunity to meet new friends while working there, everyday i go in it's always a joy to be around my coworkers and hear about their days. And when things get busy everyone works twice as hard to get things done in a timely manner. Some regulars who come in are an absolute joy to talk to as well! The only thing i wish would change with the company is the way cooperate handles things. My manager is amazing and so are my coworkers but when cooperate denies accommodations, medical leaves, or stop sending materials without any update is frustrating.
Starbucks can be a great place to work for people of all ages, genders and Identities. The issues I see within the company are with management. Often times you will not be looked at for promotions unless you are close with your manager or district manager, and there isn't much communication from either on what steps you need to take to move up. I would recommend it to people who aren't interested in moving up, and just want a fun work environment!
