I liked the community at Shepherd Center. Everyone is willing to help you, and there's always a friendly face to greet you when you enter the building. The entire staff, no matter the position, is eager to help patients and support their journies as individuals. I loved it here!
The Shepherd Center focuses on making a bad situation into a positive one, so the culture is one of positivity and doing as much for patients as possible. You kind of get wrapped into going above and beyond for others, which is a positive thing for others and yourself. I'm in a role where there really isn't an opportunity for growth, but other jobs do have that option. It is a job where you give it your all during your work hours, but you don't have to bring work home. Management has done an excellent job this year keeping staff employed during a bad economy.
I have been working at Shepherd for the past 6 years. I started as a Patient Care Technician, then a nurse, now a Nurse Educator. I love it because of our passion. Treating patients with spinal cord and brain injuries have helped me realize that this is what I am here to do. To provide care, guidance and education to our staff, patients and family members. I always wanted to be a nurse "to be there for people during tragic times," and being here for whatever reason is a tragic time. Shepherd iallows people ato to regain the most independence they can get after a brain or spinal cord injury. I love Shepherd for what we do and all of the phelp it provides!
