Niche User: VIPKID is a great place to work for when needing flexible hours. As an independent contractor, you make your own schedule, which is very convenient! I love the platform they provide for all independent contractors to engage and communicate with one another. This allows the teachers to answer questions and support one another through challenges. They help create a community within the company even though we never interact in person with each other. The only change I hope to see in the near future is for the company to reevaluate policy standards for the teacher. If classes are missed due to sickness or even labor, the teacher has to pay out $10 for every missed class. It is very difficult to remove the missed classes and receive the money back.... Intern / Student Worker: I'm an intern for Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) involved in a politically active initiative known as Healthy Options at Point of Sale (HOPS), which is focused on improving access to healthy food in my community of Richmond CA. A special project in which I am working on right now is focused on passing an ordinance for the city of Richmond which will require grocery stores to replace unhealthy snack options in checkout lanes with healthier options such as fruit. We do this by interviewing store owners and health professionals working in the Richmond area, collecting expert opinion in which we will incorporate in our proposed ordinance. BACR is an established organization working in the Bay area with a long history of community improvement for over 40 years. I feel fortunate to be able to continue working during the pandemic, as working remotely has been a piece of cake, and hours are completely flexible. Intern / Student Worker: Reading partners is a no-profit with volunteers that intent on helping children that have fallen behind on their reading skills. Intern / Student Worker: Working as an intern has been a wonderful experience. The whole team has been incredibly supportive of any and all newcomers, introducing us (and celebrating our accomplishments!) regularly at meetings. I've had the opportunity to work on many different projects and gained invaluable experience in Google Analytics, Salesforce, Excel, marketing strategy, etc. A lot of the work done as an intern is remote, and can involve a good deal of independent research/studying. Experienced Employee: I've worked at this preschool for a little over a year and a half. It's going through a lot of changes in terms of the building it self. I personally feel that once the changes to the building are made, a lot of the issues that the staff is going through will be taken care of. I myself enjoy working at a school with such good beliefs and is inclusive of all people and their backgrounds. Entry Level Employee: San Francisco Public Library is a great place to work, as a part time employee you receive full health benefits as soon as you start there is no waiting period, there is also a pension plan and a 457 for retirement. Further education is always encouraged, there are always workshops and classes to help further your work skills and personal growth. SFPL also has a tuition reimbursement. I have enjoyed my employment with SFPL and am excited to further my career within in the public library once I receive my master’s degree to become a librarian. One challenge for new employees is that you are not allowed to take vacation for a year and the vacation requests are to be submitted months ahead of time, and granted based on seniority, so major holidays are not easy to get off.... Experienced Employee: An amazing place to work. I teach all school year and summers with Camp Brainy Bunch are exactly what I need to get recharged for the coming school year. They are all about the kids. Every decision is focused on giving kids the best summer ever. The kids learn a ton and the best part is they have a ton of fun doing it. Classes are small, lessons are interactive and well thought-out. When things go astray, as they inevitably will at a summer camp, the focus is never on blame - it is always on solutions and moving forward.
