Experienced Employee: Publix was my first official job, besides babysitting/pet sitting for family friends and neighbors, and I honestly don’t think that I could have started with a better company. When I come in to shop, I still get treated as an employee and my managers always greet me and say how thankful they are for me even if I’m off that day. I feel very blessed that I was able to make so many friends and have built many relationships with my coworkers from various departments outside of the typical coworker relationships. I’ve worked there for 5 years and instantly was won over by my boss. 2 weeks in my mom gets told her cancer was back and she had 6 months to a year left to live. My managers got me safely home (I received the call while at work.) and my proprietor did everything in his power to accommodate me. He aloud me to transfer back home (leaving my fiancé, animals, and apartment in OKC) so I could spend time with my mother and still have a job while I was there. I didn't care for the inefficiencies, lack of accountability/procedural compliance and general wasted time/frustration that stemmed from it. Management in my area seemed to really care about employees and leadership in my immediate area was sound, though sometimes deprived of the power of their office by others in the company. There can be some corporate politics/conflict that hurts everyone. In some areas of the business (like mine) it's difficult if not impossible to grow within the organization.
