Jobs are stable and the state gives sick leave but they will work you in the ground. Also, the Executive staff is out of touch with frontline employees. Pay is horrible compared to other states and the level of danger associated with the job.
Missouri Department of Corrections, just like any corrections agency gets heat for any wrong doing from any sort of law enforcement office. In my time there, everyone has been very clear of the focus and direction of the department and state workers as a whole. Pay isn't quite up to par, but the work locations give you the tools needed to succeed.
It is not a difficult job. The only problem is that as Correctional Officer I in Missouri my salary is to low.
