Michaels Stores Reviews
Rating 3.97 out of 5 153 reviews
I worked at the Brentwood location in Missouri for a little over a year and only this past week, left. During that time I found that I liked helping others explore their creative sides and/or learn more about the arts myself. The staff have also been friendly which always allows the workplace to have a good vibe. The only thing that I always found odd is that our store's employee turnover rate had been high the whole time I was there. Overwise, it was a great first job! It wasn't very hard and hours weren't usually long.
I personally love my job here, and I love all the cool projects I get to hear about from coworkers and customers alike! If a customer asks you a question about a craft that you don't know the answer to, odds are one of your coworkers will know exactly what they're talking about. Sure, you encounter a few rude customers, but that's true for all retail or customer service jobs. The managers at my store generally have our back when a customer starts being exceptionally rude to us. Also, we have a 30% employee discount, including on sale items!
I really enjoy working at Michaels for the most part! So far it has been my favorite job of the three I've had, mainly thanks to my store manager and the other managers on the team as well. I've had some very poor experiences with managers in the past but everyone on my store's team is just incredible. We all work together to get things done and are very open and communicative when something isn't working or coming up with solutions for problems that arise. My only complaint is with upper management limiting hours during busy times of the year like Lowest Prices of the Season sales and expecting us to continue home base operations while simultaneously cutting extra hours used for home base. If we need more people on our team or overtime to complete certain tasks, let us have those things. You can't cut hours and expect more work to be done at the same time. Other than that, between the benefits, the people, and the overall work environment, I have enjoyed my time in this job.
