I love this job. Keeps me going and on my feet! Never a dull moment. I get to interact with customers, learn about them and make their day any way I can. That is my favorite part other than talking to the kids! The only thing I would change about is my bosses, they all have different personalities and chose what they want to address which can be difficult. I went on vacation a week ago and was told my paid time off should be approved before I leave by one boss, while the other one refused it. I went without a paycheck for a week after vacation. I found out that last week my car needed an $1k fix and my financial aid for school was denied. Regardless of the struggles, I take life a day at a time and do my best everyday and give my all to my job.
In my opinion, this place is horrible! Some coworkers are cool, but if you apply within the fall or during a pandemic it's hell. They treated me like a slave since day 1.I worked GM and cashiering. Supposedly, "everyone does cashiering nomatter what," (which isn't true). Only the people who don't want to be a cashier get trained (particularly young people able to run the cash register). No consideration about mental health. They don't care about you one bit; it's customers first because it's all about the money. Turnover is constant (never enough people and people coming and going in groups alot). You shouldn't have to be forced to cashier if you don't want to and you shouldn't have to wait until your mental health hits rock bottom to the point where you have to get a doctor's note proving the stress/ anxiety just to have the doctor force them not to take advantage of you. I didn't get a doctor's note for my anxiety/ stress, but that's pretty much the only way to get out of cashiering.
Meijer is a good company to work for because they invest in you, so you can shine on customers. Any Meijer locates outside of a metropolitan area tends to be cleaner and customer-focus. Every aisle is spacious and shelves are well-stocked. Most items are replenished every night, yet manufacturer delays do occur.
Certain Team Members will go the extra mile and cater to customers until they reach their destination or goal. During the time of COVID Meijer dispatched a logistic team to the west coast and shipment hot spots to ensure delivery of products would ship without delay or disruption to every Meijer distribution center and store.
The benefits are good. The work schedule is flexible and there is 2 break time. The company recently earned the "Best Place to Work" award. Diversity and Inclusive is an ongoing theme of unity within the company. Join Union membership is an option in the State of Michigan. The CEO is first person not from the Meijer family ever to run Meijer.
