Market Basket is a great workplace, especially for young teenagers who are starting their first job. It allows a lot of flexibility, when it comes to scheduling and hours. They always offer plenty of hours to anybody who asks for them. You also get plenty of training of any department you work in, whether it be grocery, produce, or checkout. The managers treat all of their customers and workers with the utmost respect, and have held that position since the beginning. You also get to meet a variety of new people at this job, and I find it is a great place to meet new friends. I personally have worked there since 2018, and it has been nothing but amazing to me. They have always given me the hours I ask for, and I have never felt disrespected by anybody. I have met a great amount of my friends at this job as well, and I continue to do so. Market Basket has some of the lowest, most affordable prices there is, which is why their motto is"more for your dollar."
I worked in the Hudson, NH store as my very first job. I was very nervous of course, and it seemed like the higher ups at the store didn't seem to provide much care to their employees. As long as you were friends with whoever was running the floor that night; your shift would be okay. However, if someone didn't like you; it would reflect poorly on you during your shift. It is a smaller chain of grocery store in New England, and favoritism was definitely a big part of it. If one cashier was wearing leggings and was friends with the manager it was no big deal, though if another cashier was it was like the end of the world. However, it was not all bad. They did provide an easy experience as far as learning the cash register. I would recommend it to someone, but not as a first job.
If you are an athlete or do after school clubs, Market Basket is the best option out there. Since each location has hundreds of employees, you can call out only a day in advance and easily find someone to cover your shift through Market Basket's Facebook page. The pay is also great and the management tends to be friendly though we rotate through managers a lot. They will also let you keep your job when you go off to college and can only make it to work in the summer or on breaks.
