The mission of the company is fantastic. However, the administrative side to the company is not to be desired. Time sheets are still done manually, and financial reimbursement for gas mileage takes 4-5 weeks to be delivered to your home mailbox. Reimbursement for community events can take up to 6-7 weeks which I find entirely unfair.
While the individuals I work with are fabulous, the various departments behind the scenes need to operate like we are in the 21st century (because we are).

This Job helped me grow as both a professional and for personal development. Most of the clients I have met here are long lasting friendships. This job position does have very high turn over but if you would like to find a stable long term job the population definitely needs staff. The environment is not necessarily built for upward movement, but to get your foot in the door, it is a great place to start. The staff is always there to help although trainings are poorly administrated. All the people you meet are in it for the right reasons.
Working at Independent Support Service has been a rewarding job for a student aspiring to be a art teacher. Working one on one with a autistic individual for the past two years in creating art actives and various interactive communicating projects assists him with his routine tasks with paying attention to detail, time management and decision making. My only regret about my job is I wish I made more time in my schedule to devote myself to more individuals with similar needs.
