This position has been significantly rewarding as an entry level Dietetics/ Nutrition graduate.
PROS:
The company offers student loan forgiveness by putting you on a payment plan.
Public Health Nutritionists are referred to as CPAs (Certified Professional Authorities). Depending upon which counties this individual works for, he/ she becomes internship eligible per terms of the individual district or county. This internship is paid for, usually in exchange for the Nutritionist continuing to work for the DPH for a minimum of 10 yrs.
CONS:
Possibly the lowest pay for this field. However, it is an entry level position.
For a Nutritionist, the role(s) May become very monotonous. This can also be a “pro” in that the position really helps you master knowledge in the area of Community Nutrition.
I consider it a “con” for those who are creatives, clinical-oriented, and want to expand in their scope of practice in Nutrition and Dietetics.

I like everything about this organization. If you like a company where you will function in your own way and as an individual, this is the company for you. The pay is not bad. The company offer lot of benefits including free medical. By the way, this is a public organization that is funded by our tax dollars. Hence, you can imagine all the good and bad interconnected in places such as this. The best thing is that job assurance is almost guaranteed. Only private companies where lay-off could happen anytime
It's a good place to work, start your career and advance. Go to the state trainings and network that's a plus in getting to the top!
