Extra Space Storage is an incredible company to be apart of. The culture is amazing, and everyone is working towards a common goal. Management is involved in the lives of their employees and work to provide the best possible perks and working conditions. It's growing rapidly (check for yourself -- it's a public company), and there are plenty of opportunities for being promoted and growing your professional skills. Beautiful facilities with stocked kitchens, a gym, etc. My pay as an intern was well above any other hourly rate I have ever seen for a similar position.
I think overall the company is still growing and they have a lot of kinks to work out before reaching 5 stars. The environment is primarily male dominated and it shows. I have assist managers who have been with the company shorter time than me and make more than me. I am disappointed in the management for making this a practice as I am not the only female employee who has found this to be true. Higher leadership needs to push the DM’s a bit harder on ethics an I think they could work this out. I think Extraspace has a great idea and is beginning to create a positive culture, they just have a lot of work to do in Human Resources.
Overall this job is not too bad for a junior or senior in college who has no interest in participating in any events and going to night school. The schedule is always the same 9:30 to 6pm.
Usually Sundays off and the other day will switch of depending on staffing.
There is usually 2 people to a facility so scheduling can usually be easy to deal with but at times other facilities will require your assistance and change everything up. Aside from that the co workers are alright. Usually middle aged women with children. Most are professional while others act worse than highschoolers but that comes with almost any job. I would recommend this job as a middle aged adult. Being young will only annoy you being here.
