Downtown Emergency Service Center Reviews

Best job I ever had, unfortunately working with a non-profit, the pay isn't great, but the work is very rewarding working with homeless people in a variety of crises. I really believe in the housing first model and harm reduction that DESC believes in, and feel they are making a big difference in the community--I wish more organizations shared these evidence-based practices. They have great benefits and you accrue a lot of PTO, I wasn't even able to use it all I got so much.

The employees at DESC are unique and accepting. This is a great agency to learn the ropes of the social service profession; if you can handle the challenging population and ever changing funding streams it will set you up to be a competant social worker or mental health clinician. There is room for growth and DESC embraces employees returning to the work force. Most employees move on or move up to management positions as line staff do not earn a living salary.
I like that I get to help support a population of people that normally overlooked and find them place to call home.
