As a standard part-time job, Dick's by all means is a great choice. Once one crosses over to leadership, however, the lack of associate accountability becomes disturbingly clear. I've worked for the company for 8+ years across 5 different stores - and I have always loved my job despite persistent stress and overworking. I've been a temporary part-time cashier, a key carrying operations lead, and almost everything in between. I state my tenure and number of stores to reinforce my point, that this accountability issue is not location-specific. The more diligently one works, expectations rise without ceiling. As the inverse, the more one socializes and moves slowly, the more nothing is done about it.

The company as a whole certainly cultivates and maintains a great customer service operation, which is great. Unfortunately, the handful of employees who really drive the success of a store get devalued and left with little to no help for their departments.

Dick's Sporting Goods is great place to work. Most of the employees are happy to be there, which make the work environment that much more enjoyable. The store manager, Randy, and my department manager, Chelsea, were very respectuful when asking me to do a task. They always said "Please" and thanked me when I finished a task, which goes a long way in my book. Being a Footwear & Running Specialist, I was intimidated by the amount of training I had to learn, but I am grateful because all that training made my job easier. The training included gait analysis, components of shoes, proper fitting and more. I would always get great customer reviews thanks to the training. There was rarely a question I could not answer for customers. Team communication is mediocre. We would often receive memos for plan changes at the last minute and be rushed to finish the project. Overall, DSG is filled with passionate employees, who not only cares about their customers, but their employees as well.
I've been an associate at Dick's Sporting Goods for two years now, and I can tell you it's by far been the best job I've had throughout my work experience. I've gained a huge amount of experience in just about every department, really branching out as a person. In the time period of working here, my interpersonal skills have significantly improved as well as my knowledge of tasks. This company has assisted me in stepping outside of my comfort zone, not only at work, but in my everyday life. I've met some of the best individuals through this workplace, great connections, mentors, and my best friend. I will carry this experience with me for the rest of my life, because it has changed me for the better. I look forward to expanding everything I've acquired into my future career and everyday routine.
