Chipotle Mexican Grill Reviews

When I applied at Chipotle I was told that they would help pay for my college with reimbursement. I had to work there for three months to be eligible, during that time I made lots of friends and experienced what the fast food industry was like. When three month has passed, the company decided to extend the requirement by four months, thus meaning I needed to wait one more month. Or so I thought at the time because I found out they counted my first day in January instead of November. So I had to wait two more months! When May finally hit I went on the website and was finally eligible, I applied for reimbursement and learned that I was unable to get reimbursed. It turned out I needed 120 days before the semester, so there was no way for me to get reimbursement for the Spring 2022 term. I was beyond mad and wished they told me this before! No one at the store even knew that was the thing! So now I'm struggling to pay for college and barely getting hours now.
Working for Chipotle started off as a decent enough experience. However over the course of 2 years since I started working there has been little done to improve our high volume restaurant. We have had excessive amounts of turnover not only in our crew but in our management as well. I've experienced very average managers during my 2 years at the company. Which has been the main reason I haven't moved into a management position myself. It feels like many managers are set up to fail instead of succeed at Chipotle. Managers get tossed into situations they are greatly underprepared for which leads to problems with crew members. I have never felt unsafe at work or with the people I have worked with and I have met some really hard workers at Chipotle! My biggest problem with the company is how management is set up and the lack of crossover training/training in general the workers at Chipotle receive at the entry level.
While there are great benefits to working at Chipotle in the long term (i.e. free meals, tuition assistance and medical benefits), it's a challenge to actually stay long term. Whether it be the fault of local management or, worse, corporate greed, there is a severe issue with understaffing and scheduling. Upon first coming in for orientation, one crew member said to me "should have spared yourself working here" and over the course of my employment I realized why. Crew members are expected to work every job there is within Chipotle while being paid for one. There is a difference between multi-tasking and 'multi-jobbing' due to not hiring enough people. Despite being busy from the moment we opened, only one person would be assigned to the line while the cashier was forced to split themselves between cashier, line, dining room maintenance, supply restock, and online order upkeep. This doesn't even begin to touch on what goes on in back of house.
