I loved working at Barnes & Noble! I have worked in the Cafe, as a bookseller, in receiving, and even filling out educational orders and rare was a job I did not enjoy. I love books so being in an atmosphere surrounded by them all day made it rarely feel like work. The management was amazing, always ready to help and encourage you. Also, since B&N's new owner took over the changes have only been for the better. (Myrtle Beach Location - The Market Commons)
I love the environment, store discount, and flexible hours this job provides a busy college student like me! The management at my location genuinely cares for its employees and work with you to meet your scheduling needs. The only thing I would like to see change is training out on the floor. While I did receive training, I did not receive a sufficient amount. My actions out on the floor and interacting with customers in the beginning definitely could have been smoother in the beginning had I been allowed to shadow others and given extended training.
Barnes & Noble has honestly been a great part time job for me. I work in the cafe among other amazing staff members. My coworkers are great people and we are a close knit team. The managers are understanding, supportive and encouraging. They have their employees backs and are always approachable. The pace depends on the day, weekends are very busy at my store. But it is always manageable. The only con of the job is difficult customers. Customer service is customer service no matter where you go. Like I mentioned before, the team spirit among the staff is helpful in stressful customer situations. Overall, its a great part time job as a college student. If you love books and coffee, this is the place to work.
