As for someone who has lived their entire life in Yuma (17 years), I would say that the overall community in Yuma has been great to me. Yuma is a smaller town in Arizona, making it easier to get to know, find places to eat, and etc. As a high school student, I would say that the community that revolves around the schools here has been great, the schools in Yuma really do care about the children's education and go above and beyond to make sure that students feel safe when learning. Since it is a smaller town, it is easy to find things to do around the area, although, it can be very limited. This smaller town makes life much more affordable than many other states and cities! I have never felt unsafe while living here, and do recommend Yuma to those who are just wanting to expand their family while keeping it affordable. The people in this community are very loving and supportive of one another, which is the main part of why Yuma is so connected today!
Yuma will always have a place in my heart. My family goes way back in that town. I was born there and moved to California at age 4 with my mother who had dreamed of leaving her entire childhood. The weather is depressingly awful in Yuma. Winter gets really windy and cold, summer is so hot you can’t leave the house. There is no covered parking…no indoor mall…no indoor pool…all the things that would make Yuma livable are just not there. If you are into desert camping, fishing, quads and such then this might be a good place for you. It is a republican town full of closed minded bumpkins for the most part. You can find neat things there if you really look. I have beautiful childhood memories of dancing in the rain, running around orange groves (illegal) and swimming in ditches. Because some of my family is there I will be forever connected but you couldn’t pay me to live there.
I love Yuma because of it's diversity, tight-knit community, and scenery. The sunsets are absolutely gorgeous with green fields full of all types of produce. The theater is well known in school and for the city and produces amazing performances. I wish the school systems were better, but that's a problem all around the US. I wish there were more activities that are readily available. There are many things in the summer, but often, it's too hot to do them. Once school starts back up again, you either have to do the activities with your school or go bowling or watch movies.
