Worthington is the quintessential American small town. Everyone knows everyone, the neighbors are so friendly, there's almost no crime, and there are tons of community activities. I have lived here as long as I can remember, and so far, I haven't gotten tired of it. You would think it gets boring, but it really doesn't -- some new, important event always happens just when you're thinking it won't.
In Western Massachusetts, especially in the Hilltowns, there's an escape from all the hustle and noise of the more populated areas. Being so spread out, the town does not have much of what one might call a "downtown area," but that does not mean there are not things to do. Growing up, I spent much of my time outside in the woods. I think I will have kids in the future, and if I do, I would want them to grow up in a town like Worthington to give them a chance to experience what I experienced. Towns like Northampton and Westfield--larger towns with more recreational activities--are within half an hour's drive, not too close and not too far away. Sometimes this seems tedious, but overall this community is perfectly located for a smalltown experience with access to larger scenes. I haven't met a single person here that isn't afraid to work hard or lend a hand when needed.
Crime here isn't prevalent. The only times we see flashing lights are when they are responding to vehicular accidents, which don't happen all that often. The fact that the towns are so spread out means that it takes longer for first responders and police to get to the site of an accident or perhaps a fire, but in turn I think this has made them work harder to get to the scene that much faster. When I leave the house I feel safe leaving the doors unlocked, because I know when I get home everything will be as I left it.
