Lived here for 5 years and the surrounding towns within 10 miles for the other 14 years of my life. Usually very quiet and nothing crazy really seems to go on. I can walk past someone on the sidewalk at 2am while going to gas station for a soda and I feel safe doing so. Mostly white area that tends to lean conservative but it’s not too bad. St. Louis is 25 minutes away and it’s Illinois so legal marijuana is a plus.
Neighbors are friendly or leave you alone. I can walk the streets knowing I'm safe. The neighborhood loves its holidays as well. The walls in the houses are thin, though, so I can hear nightly arguing from the neighbors.
Being in a Metropolitan area and near St. Louis, MO there are many things to do and see in the surrounding area. The employment and cost of living has decreased dramatically. Many are moving from the area to pursue better paying jobs. I have family that I feel obligated to presently, but am leaning towards leaving the area, too.
