This town does not have a lot to do for the 20 and under crowd. Yes, there is a town fair that comes around in August with a couple of restaurants and a lake to hang out at, but there is not much beyond that. Businesses are continuing to shut down (other than the brewery opening up soon which doesn't allow 21 and under) and taxes are going up along with the rest of the state. Drug deals happen everywhere and so is the littering. I hope this town turns around soon, or it's going to go to keep going downhill.

Winsted is a charming historical town in northwestern Connecticut. If you travel down the winding main street that runs parallel to the Madd River you will see charming antique shops, a plethora of restaurants and other small locally owned businesses. With several beautiful parks, a skate park and multiple baseball fields there is room for every type of recreational activity. Highland lake offers several public beaches for people to enjoy in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. Over all Winsted can be the quant and charming type of town people envision when the thing about New England; however, because of the large amount of empty manufacturing buildings that have now been abandoned and left to fall into shambles there are many eye sores throughout town. They have so much history and potential it would just take the right amount of care to restore these beautiful buildings to their former glory.
Unfortunately, Winsted is losing many key businesses and shops in recent years. The leaders in this town need to be more open minded about new opportunities and changes to the town that accommodate for the ever changing population. I grew up in this town and have seen how awesome it has been. The potential is there, the town leaders just need to be more open minded.
