Winnetka is the perfect place to raise a family, advance a career, or spend the rest of your life. If only the winters were more hospitable, but it's no more than 1/3 of the year!
The schools here are tops! New Trier is number six in IL and 38th in the nation. Metra train to the City is affordable and reliable. Neighborhoods are quiet, but full of family activities. And don't forget, Winnetka is on the North Shore, (the Left Coast of Lake Michigan some will say.)

A beautiful suburb with a very walkable “town”. The people are generally social-climbers (a lot of new money), and lack manners and decorum. Of course there are lovely people, too, just have to seek them out. I’m stunned that the crime ranking is not higher, and that burglary is ranked at “0”. There is a well known, and much talked about, issue with gangs coming up from the city and raiding unlocked vehicles (some with keys in them!) and homes. I do feel generally safe, but also keep things locked. The schools boast about their “Progressive Ed” which is lovely, by the reality is that children are not adequately prepared once they reach the high school, which draws children from neighboring towns. If you move, your child will likely benefit from repeating a grade as they will be unprepared against national schools. If you intend to live here throughout your children’s education, they may be okay.
We moved here from the east coast and were welcomed with open arms. The people who live here are all about family, education and traveling the globe. We have been grateful for our experiences and love to walk to fabulous shops and restaurants as well as the beaches on the lake. It’s been nice to share a wide variety of interests with others such as traveling and culture as well. The amenities the town offers are so well run and we love the schools.
