If you want to live in a rural, desolate, windy wasteland, then Williston is the place for you. Yes, the job pay is decent, but everything else is terrible. There are very few places to shop, few places to eat and there is really no entertainment unless you want to shoot guns, ride your ATV, drink beer and hunt or fish. It has zero sophistication. They like their remote bubble so I don't think it's going to change any time soon. The closest bigger city is Minot which is 2 hours away, and it isn't that much better. The next closest city is Bismarck (4 hours away) and it's only slightly better as well. The only way you get any culture, diversity, arts or fun is by leaving the state for a vacation. Williston is just too cowboy for me and filled with too much testosterone and diesel trucks.
The people are extremely friendly here, that is the people who grew up here. This area is full of people who travel here for work or who have moved here for work in the oil industry. Those people aren't as great. There are many uneducated people here who spread hate and discourse.
The town is wonderful, the peopel are very nice. I just wish we had more stores and restaurants that were closer to town.
