Wichita is a pretty great place to live! There's a plethora of places to eat, from small local businesses to bigger chains (depending on your preference) and a lot to do if you're looking for a night out on the town, including the theater and small amusement park. There's various pretty decent sizes festivals annually that people come in out of town for, and there is always something holiday related you could do too. My favorite place is the zoo, which is actually one of the best in the country. The home cost here is on the cheaper side which makes it a great place for a retirement home.
I love it! I just think it could be a little cleaner. It a convenient because you are close to business and leisure travelers, with easy access to other major cities in the region. However, there are also cons to living in Wichita, like extreme weather conditions, limited entertainment options, and lots of traffic hold up.
Very friendly people, pretty welcoming to newcomers for the most part. Wichita has an identity crisis. It wants to be seen as a major metropolitan with tons of attractions and visitors.... and there are SOME...but if you're used to living in a larger state or city, you'll be pretty disappointed. The state of Kansas is very rural and many residents like that, which is why Wichita's goal to be a major city is kind of awkward. You have to accept that many people here live a rural life, look down on "liberals" and people from larger, especially coastal areas, and that the standard of culture and living is very much stuck in the past, though some people in the city are trying to modernize it, most everyday citizens are stuck in their ways and that can be frustrating. The quality of social life, schools, neighborhoods, services, restaurants, and city officials is much to be desired. No social life at all. People here are complacent and will do the same things, the same way, forever.
