Westminster is located in the heart of Little Saigon in Orange County. This city is extremely rich in Asian culture, specifically Vietnamese. You can find the best Asian dishes here! The city itself has good aspects, including its diversity and family friendliness. The public school system in this city is mediocre. The schools are very diverse; however, I feel that the students do not receive the best education. Some teachers genuinely care for their student's education, but I believe that the high school system fails to prepare students for alternate options after high school. As for affordability, California itself has always been expensive. In Westminster, the real estate market is somewhat soaring. Homes in Westminster range anywhere from 500,000 dollars to 2 million. The homeless population in Westminster is high in some areas. I believe that the city should use its money to help these people find housing and jobs. Aside from that, Westminster is a decent city to live in.
My favorite part about Westminster is the diversity. Westminster is a city within a cultural enclave, along with its neighboring cities. This city exposes children of the area to the diversity of people. They are able to grow up around children of all sorts of backgrounds from Asian to Jewish to whatever they identify as. Here, Westminster builds a sense of community and support. The city listens to the needs of all people. The city has a youth committee that supports the parks and recreation department being a voice for children. This group also helps the city with feeding the elders throughout covid pandemic. I believe this speaks greatly that the city cares even in the most difficult times for everyone. It also demonstrates the adaptability of the city.
The disparity of household incomes is very present in Orange County, California. Westminster is tucked in the folds of Orange County, with mansions and money to the right and stacked apartments to the left. I live in the Little Saigon of California, there are Pho joints and Asian eateries scattered every corner. Although our streets might not look as shiny and new as other OC cities, Westminster is home to the most amazing cultures. The satisfying aromas wafting in the air wake and stir my stomach any time of day. As part of Orange County, Westminster in my opinion is one of the most affordable areas. Westminster is definitely on the higher budget end, but I am afforded space. Most areas in California are densely populated, and Westminster is no exception to this but it does feel like there is plenty of space to roam around. The area of Westminster I live in is very close to freeways, shopping centers, and grocery stores. Westminster is a great melting pot for all good things in life.
