I've lived in West Sacramento about 4-5 years now and one thing I definitely notice is a sense on community. Since West Sacramento is separated by a natural border the community keeps a smaller size, it's not a everyone knows everyone community but people look out for each other, There's even a community Facebook page with well over 3,000 members and people keep in touch and keep others updated. People like to think of West Sacramento as an Industrial zone and that would have suited it reputation in the past however thanks to new development is the past 15 + years there is a sprawling community full of Mom and Pop shops and many local small businesses that thrive here. The neighborhoods are well kept and clean, Housing is abundant and jobs are plentiful. We have Sutter Health Park and River Walkways. All in all it is a nice place to live, separated from the sprawling metropolis of Sacramento but only a bridge cross away from the heart of downtown and the capital building.
Very cute area, I grew up here. Depending on where you go, neighbors can be very friendly. It's slowly become more popular and crowded, however, so the streets have become more dirty and theres more cops around.
West Sacramento is a pretty safe place to live, with many food options, neighboring schools/colleges, and it is also an ideal location to drive to the Bay Area or Lake Tahoe from. I wish there were more internship opportunities for students, especially in tech and healthcare.
