I have lived in West Memphis on and off since I was 8 years old. When I was growing up and still in school it was a nice place to live. The schools system was good and the neighborhoods were safe. We were all raised and schooled together - red, yellow, black and white - and there was harmony! I have since moved back to raise my choldren here and it is terrible. Job opportunities are poor and the neighborhoods which I felt safe to roam have now been riddled with crime and less than desirable people moving in. You get the pleasure of seeing pan handlers as soon as you exit the interstate and gunshots in the distance are the norm when you sit outside in the evenings. The diversity is not what it once was and the good people are all fleeing. I know the world has seen a change everywhere but this area is one I will be greatful to leave.

My experience in West Memphis is both good and bad. There are people who are honest, hard working people who are working extremely hard to wipe away West Memphis's growing negative reputation. The growing negative behavior is some that's extremely toxic and bad for everyone around. I'd like to see the schools improved with better books, equipment, and much. The money is being spent on the sports teams rather than the educational part of school. The city is a good city, but sometimes being so close to Memphis is bad for our community.
I was born and raised in West Memphis, AR. West Memphis is a small city that is always related to Memphis, TN which is right across the bridge from each other. The only thing that I like about West Memphis is that the very few people that are trying to make some changes and bring some business to this small city. I dislike the violence and crime ratings. Yes, I am aware that the city is getting very out of hand when it comes to the violence. I'm pretty sure the violence is not going to stop until certain laws are being strictly enforced.
